so i just watched the movie doom last night. and for those of you who havnt seen it goes a little like this (WARNING: spoiler infos....!)

there was a portal discovered on earth that transports you to the surface of mars. humans built an "excavation" and archealogical facility there to stufy the red planet. they found 'human' remains, and when they did tests they found that the remains had 24 chromosomes, 23 of which were identical to humans. now the 24th chromosome determined one of two things. the being was either a: a human with incredible regenerative capabilities and impossibly long life, or b: it was a horribly mutated monster. of course this makes good game and movie material so why not go with it? any way they manage to isolate the 24th chromosome and inject into a normal human. infact this happens many times through some... unconventional... methods.

now then. here is a basic lesson in genetics brought to you by the antichrist himself. this theory is practically unfiesable in the fact that if a human were to have 24 chromosomes it would end up with down syndrome. the only difference is that in down syndrome the 21st set of chromosomes has 3 chromosomes instead of the normal two. if you dont understand genetics that well i will break it down for you.

the first 22 sets of chromosomes are physical variables. they determine height, weigth, color, etc. the 23rd chromosome determines sex (x/y) technically it shouldnt be classified as a chromosome because it isnt a pair, its a single strand of information by itsself. every single other set in the mapped genome is in a pair.

now with this in mind the movie also explained that we have only mapped a small portion of the human genome. we are complex creatures if you havnt noticed, with many different system functioning with different purposes in one organism. the movie suggested that this alien 24th chromosome was related to the unmapped portion of the genome that "some people say the unmapped genome is the blueprint for the soul" and of course the good people were the immortal healers and the bad were the awful freak monsters. the reason i gave you a brief rundown of the mapped human genetic library is to get you thinking. what if the 3rd 21st chromosome came from part of the unmapped genome instead of broken parts of others? i believe personally that this will be the next stage of human evolution. and mind you i do believe we evolved because of how close our genetic make up is to that of monkeys.

i think that when this begins to happen it will thuroughly rock the world of religion to its core, and the scientologists will take over. a truly riveting time yes? at any rate examples of this can be seen today. yes! its true! not just conjoined twins, but humans have grown antlers, extra limbs, and some incredible physical feats can be attributed to genetic spelling errors. so what else does our unmapped genome hold? we will have to wait and see...
