Mary E. Peters

1969 - Present Born in 1948, Mary E. Peters, the first Arizonan nominated by President Bush, was sworn in as the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation. From 1985 to 2001, Secretary Peters served in the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT), during her time spent at ADOT, in 1998, she was appointed to director of the agency. While in office, she was renown as the Most Influential Person in Arizona Transportation by the Business Journal. In 2001, President Bush designated Peters to lead the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), being a strong advocate for the position, she found new ways to invest in bridge and road construction, helping build roads faster and at less expense. |
