Conservatism's triumphant return...

A survey released by Gallup reports that 51% of American now identify themselves as Pro-Life. This is up from the peaks of 46% in both 2001 and 2002. Only 44% of Americans identify themselves as Pro-Abortion. (the poll calls this Pro-Choice, but lets be honest abut what it means)
You can see the return to conservative values in many areas of American life these days, and in some small part we might want to thank our current Evolver in Chief. The Abortion issue has no doubt been rekindled due to his pro abortion stance, his choice in pro-abortion members of his cabinet, and now that there is to an opening on the Supreme Court, the very body that allowed for Abortion to be made a constitutionally protected right in the eyes of many through Roe V. Wade, it is sure to climb back to the forefront of the news cycle in the months to come.
But Abortion alone is not the barometer of America's moral code. It has to be looked at in the larger context of what other shifts are occurring. A growing number of Americans are questioning the spending habits of this White House. Look for a moment at the recent Tea Parties which happened all across the nations. An amazing grass roots effort which seems to catch fire as people wanted to tell the President how unhappy they are with his spending. Of course, soaring unemployment in Blue States has not helped Obama either. They now hold a 20% lead over Red States in unemployment figures, which is bound to cause havoc during the 2010 midterm elections and might cost Obama's Democratic Party some seats in both the houses of Congress.
The Heritage Foundation has some new interactive charts with information form the IRS and the CBO that many of you might be interested in. They show, among other things, who pays taxes in America and who does not and what percentage of those taxes are paid by whom. It shows the CBO's base line for expenditures vs. tax dollars collected and where that money goes. It also shows the deficit predictions, not by Heritage, but by the government itself as we spend ourselves out of economic fortune and into death roll like an alligator with a fresh piece of meat. You can link them here: http://www.heritage.org/research/features/BudgetChartBook/ Regardless of your predilections, you should look closely and start to take count on what in your life you no longer need, because in the near future you may not be able to afford everything you have.
But what really brought all this home to me, the resurgence in Conservatism is the children. As we all know, the show American Idol caters to kids more than adults. The voting is slanted by a huge majority of teeny boopers with cell phones and dead time on their hands. This seasons battle royale came down to two very different but equally talented artists. One, a flamboyant glam-rocker reminiscent of David Bowie, Kiss and Freddie Mercury and the other a quiet, shy acoustic style player who was more throw back than next big thing.
Adam the first mentioned is believed to be Gay, wears make-up (as many great rockers do) is big into the performing arts and arranged his music in an extraordinary way. I really thought him to be the better entertainer and fully expected him to win this seasons contest.
Kris is a married church goer from Arkansas who is a moving performer if not reserved. His arrangements were good, but there was really very little flash bang to what he did.
Both have completely different voices with Adam a controlled screamer (which is completely OK in rock) and Kris with more of the 70's singer song writer delivery.
But in the end it was Kris who won the contest. While both were deserving of the title, I found it interesting that the youth of America picked the one they did. I believe that it was the morals question in the hearts and minds of America's youth that reared it head and swayed them towards their pick. Now whether is was the lifestyle choice he is believed to have made, the cloths, the make up or the flashiness I can not say, but it might have been a combination of all of them that cost Adam the win. And I can't say for sure if it was the lifestyle of Kris, the marriage or the down home humility that gave him the edge.
What I can say for sure is that America's youth are far more in tune with what they want from their leadership than many of us give them credit for. Both of my girls watched this seasons show. I asked if they voted and neither did. but when I pressed them for what they thought they both said that Kris just seemed like the kind of guy you want to see win. They thought he would less likely to create or be engulfed with a scandal and that he was just a better guy.
I'm not a 19 year old girl, I openly admit that, and believe me, after living with these two hormonal and often time irrational females during their most developmental years, I can't even guess what makes them tick. Both have dated guys I hated, both have dated guys I like, neither have ever made me think I understood... But I think they are a pretty good representation of at lease Idol's older teen demographic.
Going forward I believe we will start to see a greater shift towards conservative values in all walks of life and we may, again, have Obama to thank for it as he shows the misguided nature of liberalism and the damage it can and will do to this country.
But what would I know; I'm just an Average American.

| Indie, Kris is the married straight one. Pay attention! Now then, polls are indicators but the acting out of personal beliefs speaks much louder than polls Indie. Kind of like the fact that more Americans voted for McCain or not at all than voted for Obama. It is a fact that you can not dispute. So go ahead and paste your hopes on Obama and the future, or eat your paste, matters little to me. How exactly do you get a kid born from say 95 forward to identify properly his political affiliation anyway? You go with hope for change, and by the time Obama jacks this country up enough, those same kids born from 95 forward will be of voting age and have a real clear memory of the past 4-8 years (God help us if it's 8) and it will be the Carter crush all over again. You fear it and you know it. Nobody can afford the Utopia you liberals believe in and the kids can smell Obulls*** a mile away. Sleep well knowing your kids will save the world... or my kids will. |

My eyes were glazed over when I got to the "American Idol as a barometer for the conservative resurgence" part. I don't pin my hopes on any person. I have a philosophy that is dear to my heart. Obama and the Dems are closer to my personal belief system right now. If the Republicans would pull their heads out of their asses, get over their raging anger and put forward some ideas they might be worth a look. The Conservatives are a bunch of angry old white men and one stupid former beauty queen. Who wants to be governed by THAT?

The Republicans can't pull their heads out of their asses: it's where they've been finding their best ideas for over a generation now. This isn't your daddy's Republican Party anymore. The Republican Party of the 21st century denies any science that postdates the 15th century. The Republican Party of individual rights will gladly trade those rights for an empty promise of security. (Unless its the right to pack heat -- then suddenly they're the Party of the Constitution.) The Republican Party finds their intellectual might from Carrie Prejean and Joe the Plumber, gets their moral compass from Dick Cheney, and follows their paragon of virtue Rush Limbaugh where ever he wants them to go. The Republican Party finds humanity in torture, weakness in welfare, and a love they dare not speak about with male prostitutes. I don't think the GOP is going to bounce back from this one. This slump is different. Rather than reinvent themselves to become more in line with the prevailing sentiments of the modern era, to reinvigorate their numbers, they have chosen instead to purge themselves of any not on board with their abjectly failed ideology, willfully thinning their numbers to the point of extinction. But this will not be the end of a two-party system in this country. I firmly believe that there will always be at least two parties in this nation's politics. I just don't think the Republican Party will be one of them. |

Odumba says every American can be insured and taxes won't be raised. Wanna bet on that? You claim conservatives are a "bunch of angry old white men" yet you attack a beauty queen for stating the same position on gay marraige held by Odumba and Clinton. Who are the angry ones again? Odumba has broken countless promises yet the KoolAid tastes so good you just can't put it down. So if Conservatism is dead why do you all spend so much time talking about?

View this Comment It's not dead yet, but you guys are doing a good job strangling yourselves without any help from us. So what's the Republican Party platform? Is it a continuation of Bush/Cheney economic and foreign policy? Is it the Palin Way, the Limbaugh Way, or the Newt Way? The best I can tell is that the GOP has only one articulated plan coming into 2010: they will be Obama antimatter. Anything Obama is for, they are against. Unfortunately Obama is intellectual, analytical, and thoughtful. The opposite of these things is . . . George Bush. This is not a winning strategy. As for fiscal responsibility, I'm glad you finally found it. You seemed to misplace it while Bush doubled the national debt in 8 short years. A remarkable feat of Republican-sponsored big government spending while still managing to decimate all government programs (except the military) and allowing infrastructure to crumble. So Obama walks into a sadly neglected house with a stack of unpaid bills, while simultaneously handed the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, and you're suddenly thinking about the children. Well, somebody has to pay those bills and shore up the foundation, or there won't be a house left standing to pass on to our children. It would be irresponsible to do otherwise. It would be very . . . Republican. Let's put it another way. The Republican Party gouged at the feed trough and stuck Obama with the check. Now you're blaming him for actually paying it, and your solution is to bring Republican's back to pig out again. How can we not talk about this s***? It's f***in' golden!!! |

Way to go Postman! A brillant response! So very Sarah Palin like. You know, when we are making a point about the Republicans not having anything constructive to say, you really shouldn't go and prove the theory correct. |

| The Republican Party of the 21st century denies any science that postdates the 15th century. This must be about the canard embryonic stem cell research. Or maybe the global warming canard. Who is it again that is ignoring science? Yes. And the canard evolution, and the canard safe sex, and the canard environmental protection, etc. Your answer makes my case. When will you dismiss the canard of gravity? Don't you know that things fall down because God wants them to? Who is ignoring science? YOU. |

Digg It!

How do you account for this:
If the Republican Party thinks it has problems now, just wait, warn Morley Winograd and Michael D. Hais, co-authors of "Millennial Makeover: MySpace, YouTube, and the Future of American Politics."
The Millennials, the generation of Americans born from 1982 to 2003, now identify themselves as Democrats by a ratio of 2-1. They are the first in four generations to contain more self-perceived liberals than conservatives.
Though many people question the political sophistication of the Millennials, they have been instilled with egalitarian and participatory values by their parents since birth. This child-rearing produced a generation that was wide open to the personal appeal and message of Barack Obama and his party.
Moving forward, the initial preference of Millennials for President Obama and the Democrats will remain in place for a lifetime unless Republicans can quickly adapt their message and find a messenger who can speak to this powerful new force in American politics.
Their unity of opinion and their numbers will make Millennials' preferences for economic activism, a non-intrusive approach to social issues by government at any level and a multilateral interventionism by America in foreign affairs the policy paths to political success during the next decade.
It is simply inconceivable that the Republican Party can craft a winning strategy between now and then that doesn't accommodate these ideas.
But so far, Republicans appear to be tone deaf on the issues that Millennials care about.
Who is the powerful new force that will speak to the Millennials? Newt? Dick? Rush? Rove?
Of course, the Republicans could nominate that Kris guy...couldn't be any worse then that Sarah Palin gal.
THink about your premise here Average. Kris, most certainly gay. The Republican party, most certainly anti-gay.
