It’s that time of year.

It’s time for you to be Santa’s little helper once again, to make his birthday a very merry event.

Santa’s Birthday comes but once a year (although it won’t be long before its celebration will start on Independence Day).

Be of good cheer, all you Average American Consumers. Tis' the season to buy, to set new glorious records to celebrate that King of Consumption, Santa Claus, on his day. You’ve never failed to top your previous year's shopping spree, and The Economy has the utmost confidence that you will come through again this season.

Let the cash registers ring a merry merry tune. Ring ding ding ding ... offer up your credit cards. Let us raise retail sales up to the heavens as a mighty chorus.

Merry Clausmas, and many happy returns.

This year, it was time to tell the kids about the Santa LIE! My little one cried for about ten minutes without making a sound. Just tears pouring out . . . broke my heart a little

I am not a myth believer; we don't do X-mas, or tell our children that strange men in red jump suits will b&e with a load of shwag. That way, they never need to learn that all adults are liars... ok, well, they'll learn it, just not over something they love and care about.

Also, thx for the Simpson's tie in, and the celebrating of the birth of Santa.

I still haven't told my kids. But I think they are holding out on me. My youngest is 24 years old and I still get these Santa letters. So this year I sent my out my own wish list. HOHOHO

Oh yea the retailers did have a disapointing XMas but are hoping gift card sales will save them. What a joke.

prometheus, how old is your little one? Your story is a heart breaker.

I believed in Santa Claus. My parents went to some length to make it appear real. But somewhere along the line my yuletide awareness expanded to encompass the truth about that old gent. I don’t recall that anyone sat down with me and told me – I simply found out on the street I guess. Maybe that is the best way to learn it. At any rate I don’t carry any known scares from the revelation.

Phaedrus, you may be the wiser person for that. I do have found memories of the myth, though, and I wouldn’t trade them.

As I wrote to prometheus, I believed in Santa Claus. My parents went to some length to make it appear real. I think fairy tales are a part of our existence, and are with us from cradle to grave. Think politics, for instance. These people are generating myths til Hell won’t have ‘em, and we continue to believe – or not.

Our existence is to a greater extent than we realize mythical, don’t you think??

What are you saying, MoronInCharge? She could sit on your lap if you were Santa?

She IS nicely wrapped. In fact she is now the background on my monitor, a little Clausmas present to me (just kidding).
