Like BAA Boy shows us in his rant against the print media, it’s easy to lose sight of the big picture when one focuses on the day to day coverage of the presidential race - but the Wall Street collapse and bailout was a seminal event in the nation’s history and in our politics.

Americans have lost 1 trillion dollars in net worth in the last month alone! And, just as Bush's failures in Iraq have undermined his party's advantage on national security issues, this financial train wreck clearly shows us the implications of the Republicans’ long-standing preoccupation for market deregulation.

This framework is helpful for analyzing why McSame’s political aspirations are toast!

In the first presidential debate, McSame’s goal was to discredit Obama as a potential Commander-in-Chief and swamp him in the issues of foreign policy and national security, the traditional Republican long suit - but he didn't even come close.

Now, in the absence of a domestic terror attack, those issues will rank a distant #2 behind the economy and there is little McSame can do to catch up with Obama in that field.

More than half of voters polled say the economy is their top concern and Obama enjoys a double digit lead among voters asked who can better fix our economic mess.

How can McSame ever hope to win if he continues to trail Obama by double digits on the top concern of more than half of voters?

Well, let’s see how he’s tried: so far, he’s shut down his campaign (he really didn’t), canceled his Letterman appearance so he could gallop off to Washington immediately (he didn’t) to save the Bailout Bill (he didn’t).

Then McSame morphed into a deregulating change agent while Sarah amped up the attacks on Obama’s character.

And where’s that gotten him?

Well, if the election were held tomorrow, Obama would win all of the states Kerry carried plus Iowa, New Mexico, Colorado, Virginia, Nevada, Ohio and Florida with Indiana and N Carolina still in play.

At the same time, McSame has written off Michigan and has dispatched Sarah to shore up faltering support in Nebraska.

You tabulate the electoral votes - or ask Chuck Todd to do it for you!

Of course, it’s too soon to count all the chickens with nearly a month left before the election but, for sure, there aren’t enough Ayers, Rezko’s, Jeremiah Wright’s or racial innuendo left to swift boat Obama with - and Obama hasn’t even begun tying the Keating 5 can to McSame’s tail!

McSame has gone down as hard and fast as Merrill-Lynch and Lehman Brothers - the print media won't tell ya yet but this one’s over folks!
