And that hot air is probably what is making Gustav ramp up to a super hurricane level.

But the Republickns are secretly relieved and thanking their maker over Gustav’s adroit timing.  This gulf coast threat provides them with the excuse they have been agonizing over to act disappointed over the anti-climax their little get together will be after the triumph of the Obama Democratic Convention and Extravaganza.

Cheney and Bush have already sent their regrets.  It seems they need to attend to Gustav on the anniversary of the Bu$hite debacle Katrina.  I hope for those folks on the gulf coast, and for all of us Average Americans, that these has-beens will get at least part of it right this time around.

And of course the excuse slips don't stop with the lame duck liabilities of obscurity in an undisclosed location.  Bobby Jindal, the governor of Louisiana, said a couple of weeks ago that if his state was threatened he would have to forgo a trip to St. Paul.  Whew!  His prayers couldn’t have been answered more concretely, and now he has to make the sacrifice and stay home.

But the poor governor of Minnesota, Tim Pawlenty.  He said some time ago that if it were not for the fact that the convention was being held in his state, he would not go to it.  Gustav won’t help him I’m afraid.  No such luck.  The good news is that he won’t have trouble finding a parking space.  I understand St. Paul has actually set aside one city block long street reserved for all the delegates that will make the convention.  The bad news is that guv Tim will look pretty lonely.  Or, maybe that is good news if a media camera happens to be diverted from Gustav long enough for some air time for him.   He should really stand out in the "crowd" of several.

Then there is Lierbeman, Romeny, Lierbeman, Huckabee, Lierbeman, and all the other also-rans that were beat out by the VP to nowhere.  Word on the street has it that the ‘miffed’ quotient among some of the also-rans is at a stratospheric high.  Oh well … TS!  That’s Tough Situation.  They are surely trying to fit Gustav into their schedule.  You can bet on that!

The real regret is that the convention may not get full coverage.  I hope they cover the swim suit contest.  I don’t care about the rest of it.  But I surely look forward to seeing more of the VP Candidate from the Bush.   She should be good, with all that pageant experience!

It’s enough to make all Liberals tremble – with anticipation!!
