My Vote of No Confidence

As the Senate prepares ask for a vote of "no confidence" on Attorney General Gonzales I have a few of my own votes of "no confidence" I would like to express.

1. I have "no confidence" in a Congress that can throw together a "comprehensive immigraton reform bill" (amnesty anyone) and be unable to send a clean, prok free bill, to fund the troops.

2. I have "no confidence" in a Speaker who states "The American people voted to restore integrity and honesty in Washington, D.C., and the Democrats intend to lead the most honest, most open and most ethical Congress in history," then attempts to appoint unethical members to power positions.

3.I have "no confidence" in media that acts as cheerleaders for democrat Presidential candidates yet throws dirt on Republican candidates.

4.I have "no confidence" that any changes are on the horizon.

5. I have "no confidence" that any candidate will receive as many votes as the latest American Idol contestants.

6.I have "no confidence" that liberal talk radio will ever offer any wothwhile programming in the Phoenix area. (.6 arbitron share)

But I do have confidence in the fine contributors to VoA and enjoy reading the varied opinions.

I have to give my vote of "no confidence" to the American People themselves. American Idol is nothing short of the "games" Romans used to hypnotize the people as their rights were taken and pockets picked

Even the vast majority of the people that call themselves "informed" are nothing short of partisan hacks for whatever side they align themselves with.

I sense you are a republican hack that simply forgot Bush also promised to "restore honesty" in Washington. Or that Republicans also front loaded defense spending with pork when they held the ring of power. And I assume you haven't been paying attention to Fox News as they demonize Democrats while simultaneously eating the only conservative in the Presidentual race for questioning our foreign policy

But you are right about the future. I have no confidence that will change in my lifetime.

Ya know, years ago, when the Syrian regime changed hands, there was a "burst" of more free ideas in the media. It went on for a year or so, and then there was a crack down and many of the liberal media outlets were shuttered, and their originators, supporters, etc were arrested and put into jail. People (in Syria) to this day wonder if that "burst" of liberation was a trap laied by the government on purpose.

I fear any one sided view of anything for this reason. I like Nova M, but I really wish they would have less complaining and rhetoric against the "administation" and more information, articles, and ways that we could find truth on our own, and make decisions based on self study. Somehow, it seems that too much rhetoric and ranting is counter productive to the progressive cause.

Hunter, I would not consider myself a Republican hack, If that floats your boat though thats ok.

I am a conservative former democrat and a registered republican. I do, however, vote for whom I feel is the best candidate.

Zanubiyah I try to listen NovaM but the constant whining is hard to take. The same reason I seldom listen to Hannity.

It seems people can't discuss anything without name calling (ie Republican hack) An exchange of ideas without personal attacks would seem to be worth a try.

Or at least be respectful like ...........instead of my agreeing TC is a major a****** I stand corrected and will refer to him as Mr major a******.

A sad fact of the congressional or parliamentarian style government is that when you do not have the numbers on your side to pass a clean piece of legislation, you do a bit of horse-trading to cobble together the necessary majority. Most of the "pork" you speak of refers to domestic spending of personal value to any particular congressman's home district, but still of general merit for all: things like drought relief, Katrina rebuilding, and medical care for the indigent. It is better to use the term "pork" for $250 million "bridges to nowhere" rather than for chronically neglected / financially strapped projects that do good AND build consensus. As for "immigration reform," I am sorry to see any bill pass that does nothing to address the underlying cause of illegal immigration: Illegal employers.

Speaking of Murtha? Well, perhaps we can credit the Democratic leadership for blocking

Murtha's appointment in favor of Steny Hoyer (arguably no victory since Hoyer is loyal DLC). The Republican difference is that unethical people of not merely considered for positions of power, but get those positions routinely.

It is not a good day to be a Republican running for President. How best to support a lost occupation, look strong on national security while representing a party that has heightened our insecurity in every way, while still distancing themselves from a President they have unquestionably supported up to now? Of course the media throws dirt on these guys. The only one of these moraler than thou God-fearing family values conservatives to not be married twice of thrice is the Mormom, and he wants to double the size of Guantanimo. Tom is right. The only Republican candidate that isn't by definition a hypocrite is Ron Paul, and the conservative media has thrown him under the bus.

4.I have "no confidence" that any changes are on the horizon.

I am cautiously optimistic that at least if things don't get better under Democratic leadership (so much damage has been done in six years), the rate of decline won't be as precipitous if Republicans were still calling the shots on Capitol Hill.

5. I have "no confidence" that any candidate will receive as many votes as the latest American Idol contestants.

That reflects poorly on Americans, as Hunter said.

Took five years for Fox News to turn a profit. At one point they lost 100 million per year. Again, cautiously optimistic.
