Race baiters

The thing that seems to be not discussed in this incident is the FACT that Mr. Imus was the initiator of it.  Regardless of how Jessie Jackson, Al Sharpton, the media or you or I feel, and or express ourselves about this incident, Mr. Imus said what he did.  I would say that Jessie Jackson in particular is a bad example of thinking before you speak personally.  However  to protray Mr. Imus as a victim, or to portray the reaction by anyone else as "restraint of freedom of his speech" is totally wrong.

Mr. Imus, as well as the rest of us need to understand that there is no such thing as "freedom of speech".  Just because the government allows you to say whatever you want to does not mean you should.  Freedom of anything simply means that YOU are RESPONSIBLE for your words and acts.   If you feel you need to say something, you better be able to withstand the consequenses.

I hear many use the justification that Mr. Imus said what is in the popular culture amost Black people.  I have heard it said in this debate that Mr. Imus should be excused simply that "rap singers" degrade women and use racially charged words in their "music".  I have heard it said that he is doing no more than what Blacks call each other as friends.  Well, to me, just hearing that is degrading and stereotypical in itself, because the VAST majority of Black people do not listen to "rap music" and do not talk like that amonst themselves.  Even if it were true, it is still wrong, and is not an excuse and or justification for Mr. Imus to do so.

Mr. Imus is not a victim, he is reaping what he sowed, and sowed many times before this particular incident.  If anyone holds this kind of speech up as an example of what should be protected, then be ready for the backlash.
