Dubya’s similarities to Hitler are startling to anyone that has studied Der Fuehrer.

 

Unfortunately the inhabitants of Oz view Hitler as a mad man, a picture painted largely and very successfully by British propaganda during the Second World War.

 

He wasn’t, you know.  But the fallacy persists to this day and has become fossilized in our psyche here in Oz. 

 

“OK, but so what?” you ask. 

 

The “so what?” is that a Munchkin would not recognize Hitler’s “reincarnation” amongst us because they would be looking for the wrong thing.

 

Hitler was very much accepted by the German people.  He was especially popular with the women, a little known fact.  Winifred Wagner, the composer's English-born daughter-in-law, held parties for Hitler before he came to power to introduce him to influential people and gain support for his movement.  Krupp, and other industrials that stood to gain obscene profits from war production, came on board and bankrolled his rise to power.  Sound familiar?  

 

The German Munchkins had an excuse of sorts – they did not have a glaring well-documented example of the Nazi regime to learn from.  Unfortunately the soil was fertile, so they learned first hand as a result.

 

Current day Munchkins have no such excuse.

 

The main thing that is saving today’s Munchkins from the ovens is the fact that the soil is not right for a new Hitler to arise.  I have written on this subject elsewhere, and a major point is that there are personalities in every human population in which the Hitlarian seed lies dormant.  Dubya contains the seed, but he is not nourished by the post-WWI hyper-inflation, street battles between militias of unemployed soldiers and communist/anarchist, and sudden depression that propelled events leading from the Weimar Republic (a Democracy) to the Third Reich.

 

Hitler came to power thru questionable but ostensibly legal machinations.  The seal on the deal was the “Enabling Act”, a “temporary” measure that gave him absolute authority.  Our Bushite Regime’s attempt at this is the brazenly misnamed Patriot Act. 

 

The Enabling Act was promulgated by the burning of the German Reichstag, or House of Representatives.  Ours was promulgated by the 9/11 event.

 

While the Munchkins slept the Bus***es studied history.  Then they tried to duplicate it.

 

It’s a near thing, but it appears that the American people are waking up in time and the opposition is getting some backbone as a result. 

 

It’s a near thing, though ….   And that’s scary as Hell!
