Ever since Father John Huss pointed out that power flows from God, to the people, and the King harnesses that power, instead of power flowing from God, to the King, who then grants power and freedom to his subjects, the Monarchists, Hobbesians and kkkonservative Republotards have all been waging a war against the masses of people. I'll believe we have an uprising when I see people actually taking to the streets. And not just kveching online.

David's book is really quite interesting. He documents about six different "types" of populist movements including the Minute Men. Because of the downward pressure on the general population, by the weight (or "great sucking sound" of resources being drawn from the masses-- both in power and in assets) popular energy is cohering around "popular" issues.

And what you see is that going against conventional wisdom in nearly every case results in real results for those who become involved and on behalf of their constituents. For example, an example of an Uprising I don't think we ordinarily think of is the rise of the religious right, and for at least a while it had the GOP by the throat. That power is waning now, but that is not the fault of the power the religious right had popularly, but I think because faith-based systems can't wield much power for long unless it becomes the antithesis of faith-based; bureaucratic.
