It's education reform versus foreign undiplomatic relations. Which one will you vote for come Nov?
Both presidential candidates stopped in Colorado to give speeches that will be dominant themes in their campaign for the White House. They were drastically different. One things for sure, voters will have a clear choice for the next commander in chief.
Barack Obama stopped by an innovative public high school in Thornton, CO called Metropolitan Expeditionary School for the Arts to give a speech about improving the education system in America. He spoke in detail about the reforms needed to gain back a global advantage for our kids. His plan starts at the bottom by improving the incentives and quality of life for teachers and reaches the top by producing college-ready young adults.
John McCain spoke at Denver University on his position regarding nuclear proliferation. He spoke broadly about America being "a citizen of the world" and stopping the proliferation of nuclear weapons while fostering the economic growth of nuclear energy capabilities. His plan involves Russia, the other major nuclear weapons producing country, to control the aspirations of Iran and North Korea.
Each candidate will face major challenges domestically and abroad. What area should they focus on first?

That's what would happen if it were left up to the states to fund their education programs. The reason the fed's are in the education system in the first place is because they have the money to fund it. If it were left up to the states public education would be worse than it is now, which is pretty bad. Private schools would flourish by accepting money from anyone they wanted. The school systems would then have to sett heir agenda's to meet the demands of their donors. Great idea... The threat of nuclear proliferation has been around forever, and it will always face the same Mutually Assured Destruction costs. No country has the ability to bomb us and not be obliterated. We can find out where every bomb originates from, there's no hiding from us. Isn't our biggest threat from rogue terrorist groups with nothing to lose? Shouldn't we be doing more to suppress the rise of these groups around the world, and maybe capturing their inspirational leader, than worrying about Mother Russia doing something as stupid as bombing us? |

Russia is not going to bomb us anytime soon because of MAD. It is Russia's lack of controls on their fissile material that is the issue RD. Russia does not have the same systems we have here in the states and in our bases around the world. True, it has gotten better, but remember Russia deals with many of these rogue states as well. Iran and North Korea are largely dependent on Russia and if Putin of Medvedev were to desire to place certain assets in those countries there would be little we could do about it. Then there is the issue you brought up about the terrorist around the world who do not play by any of the rules. Hell, even Russia plays by some of them... With Russia being a major player in the world black market of fissile material we should be fully engaged with them if nobody else just to keep an eye on them. Trust but verify... As for education, the states would have plenty if the Feds did not require that money to be sent to them to then be redistributed back to the states for education purposes. Besides the fact that it is the states who reserve the right to deal with education as they see fit according to the constitution... You remember that document I'm sure. How can you believe that the Feds are better qualified than the local state, county and city governments to identify the needs of the local schools. This goes back to the idea of big brother knowing best... |

And if you really believe that nuclear weapons are a worry of the past, or that Russia is no longer a threat to this country, you are indeed living in your own little world.
As for education the answer is simple, get government out of education and return that responsibility to the Constitutionally responsible parties, the States.
