The wire services are singing tonight about Condi Rice’s aboutface performance on the Sunday morning TV talk circuit. She and Rummie had just returned from Baghdad and Condi was poised to spin all the good news about the emerging “unity” government in Iraqi. neoconhdr371x233

But, apparently the “good” news from Baghdad wasn’t all that newsworthy because Condi ended up trying to fend off and spin the remarks her predecessor made on British TV about the pre-invasion planning.

Colin Powell was quite specific about the troop strength and exit strategy recommendations he made to Tommy Franks and Rummie in Bush’s presence. He noted that “a judgement” was made to ignore his recommendations.

Condi, who was Bush’s national security advisor at the time, developed a fuzzy memory - on the air, for all to see, on more than one Sunday morning booking.

The links below will fill in the details. I want to strike out in a different direction.

When Powell was named as Secretary of State, Washington was abuzz with speculation about the path that would catapult him into the presidency. The man was pure gold. However, he lost his luster because of his role in the ABC/WMD scam that preceded the invasion.

Today, the Washington buzz has Cheney resigning for health reasons after the midterm elections. This, the rumormongers say, greases the skids for appointment of an heir apparent, the next Republican presidential candidate. And Laura favors Condi.

So, here we have Colin, the once golden boy, telling it like it was and Condi furiously spinning what she can dredge up from her fuzzy recollection file. Interesting, eh?

That got me thinking about the NeoCons stranglehold on the Republican Party levers. In turn, that led me to wonder just what in the hell grassroots Republicans are going to do about it. Anything?

There must be some real Republicans, aside from AZ Moderate, here at Voice of Arizona. How’re you thinking? What are you thinking? Should Bush’s legacy include another NeoCon candidate in ’08?
