The republicans now hold just 199 seats in the House, compared to 236 for democrats. Bush won the district in 2004 with 62 percent.
Childers won 19 of 24 counties in Mississippi and came away with 54 percent of the vote. He accomplished this feat by running as a conservative democrat - pro-life, pro guns, pro community college - who opposed the war and the fiscal irresponsibility of Bush / McCain.
The republican attack machine had so much success under a Rovian watch, but has failed to produce results this time around. Maybe Karl could show some long-term party loyalty and get back to work, or he could get comfortable in his high perch in the media and keep spewing irrelevant advice for Obama to ignore.
The RNCC and their shadow group, Freedom's Watch, pulled out all the stops to defeat Childers, who should've been an easy target. They race baited - by trying to link him to "that black guy running for president." They tax baited - by falsely accusing him of supporting a raise on S.S. taxes. And they guilt by association baited - by claiming he was still involved with a disgraced ex business partner. Somehow, someway, people still voted for him!?!?!
The political landscape has changed. The dishonest, cheap tactics that got Bush elected aren't going to work again. Now that democrats have claimed former Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert's Illinois seat and a conservative republican district in Louisiana, what more do the republicans have to cling too?

| Go RD! Some would say that House Republicans are seeing red - but that just ain't true in Il, LA or MS! Yeah, all the above, plus with the RNCC dispatching Governor Barbour, Mike Huckabee and Dick Cheney to stump for Childers' opponent - in a CD that'd been a Republican stronghold since 1995 - Childers cruised to victory! Remarkable! That's caused the RNCC to begin scrambling for a new "product branding" while there's rumbling among the House Republican Caucus that Boehner has to go. Ain't it fun to watch when Republicans start eating their own? |

| Update: by now you're aware that the RNCC today adopted the "branding" slogan, CHANGE YOU DESERVE, a trademarked ad phrase for the antidepressant EFFEXOR! House Democrats are having a field day - Steny Hoyer: This morning, as I understand it, House Republican Leaders are supposed to roll out their latest "re-branding" effort under the slogan "change you deserve." ... "In his weekly meeting with reporters today, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer projected a list of the drug's side effects, and highlighted a few: nausea, headaches and drowsiness. "Democrats, not drugs, is what the people need," Hoyer said. http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/news/politics/blog/2008/05/hoyer_warns_of_republican_side.html

The other 28% are just back seat drivers, along for the ride. |

| So now the republicans are ripping off Obama's slogan by ripping off an anti-depressant drug? It doesn't get much better than that. I bet the RNCC "slogan guy" has so many bottles of that anti-depressant stored in his work desk, wife's purse, medicine cabinet that the "change you deserve" mantra was giving him nightmares so he finally said "screw it, I'll just use it for our campaign, they'll never know." The RNCC should start giving out bottles of that stuff to registered republicans. Disperse them just like the economic stimulus plan II, only they should call it the "You're an Idiot for ever believing in us, but these will help you forget about it if you mix 'em with Jack Daniels," plan. |

Digg It!

Another thing to note on this 8 point drubbing.
There are 110 Republican held House seats that were less pro-Bush in 2004 this year. So, it is not unreasonable to assume that everyone of those seats is in play in 2008. And the RNCC attack machine ran the most hateful, bigotted campaign, linking Childers to Rev. Wright, and they spent $1.3 million! Multiply 1.3 mil, by 110 seats, and that means $143,000,000 just to play defense, which they don't have. So, depending on the candidates, and the quality of the Democratic challengers, the Democrats could be looking to add to their 236, what 20, 40 or more House seats?
They only need 52 more to reach a veto proof majority, and even if McBush could win, with 240 plus Dems, McBush will be Pelosi's bitch.
