Now I know what some of you are thinking. What now? Well I can back it up with common logic.
While some will argue that Alcoholism is a genetically caused condition, that the disposition to be an Alcoholic is carried from parent to child, I would argue that Poverty is much the same. And like a child of an Alcoholic, you are not destine to follow in the foot prints of your parents if certain mitigating circumstances are avoided.
For a drug attic, an alcoholic or a person who was raised in a disfunctional family surrounded by abuse, you can choose to not participate in behavior that would lead you into something that you believe you have a genetic predisposition to abuse.
Poverty is the same thing. If you grow up in a home where poverty and self pitty is the name of the game you have a tendency to follow in that same vein. However, if you look at a number fo people who have become self sufficient you will find that many of them came from impoverished homes or simple middle income families who instilled in them a feeling that they controlled their destiny. E.I. Jack Welch, Bill Gates, Lee Iococca, Henry Ford, Abraham Lincoln and the list even includes Bill Clinton. These men came from hard lifes where poverty was the norm. Martha Stewart and Donald Trump both came from middle income families. Both decided not to live pay check to pay check. Most of these people were college drop outs if they even went to college. Lincoln had a 5th grade reading level and became President. All from different yet humble beginnings, none of them particularly smart or special, yet all accompliched great things. You can too.
While Acoholism is never cured, poverty for the individual can be. It takes treatments of self esteem and hope to over come. People like our own William Crum are so addicted to the missery that they are blind to the cure. Many of you say that Geaorge Bush is a silver spoon person and only the rich and powerful are in control. So how do you explain your own Clinton. He was raised by a drunk of a father and a mother who had to work her ass off to get him anywhere. You just forget him becasue he doesn't fit your mold.
If we band together and work really hard, we can cure poverty in most people. But remember, for every one we save, we will lose one too. Even Christ said the poor would always be with us. Not all can be saved. This is the realistic view of conservatives. Just like an acoholic, one has to want to be cured for the cure to work. The DLP will fight to retain deminion over their voting base, and that base is made of a majority that receives their money from this big titted government pork machine. They are pleased you are poor. If you were not, you would no longer have a need for them or their government hand outs and you would probably stop voting for them.
The best part of this cure is that it doesn't matter if you are a man, a woman, white, black, purple, Christian, Muslum or even a liberal. It works for everyone who wants it to work.
Conservatism is the innoculation that can prevent poverty from ever entering your life. A true can do attitude that you can hold onto and gain personal satifaction and yes, even a little wealth along the way. Remember, profit is not a bad word. You have a right to be well rewarded for your work. We all do.
So remember, the next time you are thinking you are no good, too dumb, not in a position to make it happen for yourself, you are. That's where most start out. At the bottom. when you are there look up, because that's the only way you can go.
But what would I know, I'm just an Average American, an Average American who is not a millionaire as William thinks, not a Rich man who lives in a castle, just a man who busted his ass, never gave up, never gave in to the thoughts of dispair. Just an Average American who believed he was no dumber than any of those who made it before. When I think , "Why not me", I'm not complaining that others have more, I am truely asking, "why should I not accomplicsh the same level of prosperity for myself and my family and who could possibly stand in my way". That's all it takes to make sure poverty never claims you as a victim. I and millions like me are proof.

Interesting article! I understand the platform from which you write and a lot of what you write I agree with. The only thing that I differ on is that poverty in no way is genetic. It is environmental! I suggest that you read a book called The Bell Curve. It is a pretty heady research piece that really created quite a buzz when it came out, but it points to the environment as a cause of certain social problems.
You are right that it takes a good parent to help their kids get out of the hole and make it, but unfortunately there are not enough of these people who would do what Bill Clinton's mom would do.
I fully agree that our government spends way to much money of projects that do not make this country better. There are too many pork barrel projects that do not help the majority, just a small group. Now I know AA is going to cringe when I say that we could save a lot of money by not being in Iraq. We have spent billions on a "war" that has no end and no obvious benefit to the people of the United States.
Just imagine of that money was put back into educating our children to give them the opportunity to take them out of impoverished situations. The United States used to be "the place" in the world to get an education. It is not anymore. If we educate our children, we can give them the chance to move ahead. Granted, it will not work in every case, but it at least gives them a fighting chance.
Personally, I have had the opportunity to work with some homeless people. AA, I would encourage you to do the same and just talk to them and hear their stories. Some of these people had every opportunity that the world could provide, but something happened and put them on the streets. Sometimes people just need a little help and at times there is just no one there to help them.
Ultimately, it is each and every persons responsibility to create the quality of life that they want, but it often needs help and compassion from good friends and family. Life is tough and comes with no guarantees. But it can be eased in a good environment. Those that are impoverished, in most cases, are not provided that opportunity. The climb to get out is often daunting.
