Someone should tell President Bush that "cyclone" is just another name for "hurricane." He seems oblivious to the stunning irony of sending First Lady Laura "Pickles" Bush out to chastise Myanmar for 1) not warning the Burmese people of the impending danger from Cyclone Nargis days prior to landfall, and 2) accusing the ruling junta of appearing tone deaf in failing to acknowledge the true scope of the tragedy.
Now as Myanmar proudly rejects most offers of foreign aid to help the survivors, we can lecture them on the importance of not being too proud in the face of a natural disaster that respects no international borders. Just who do these arrogant bastards think they are, the United States?
Maybe we should burn them a DVD to help them visualize the true scope of the problem.
Well, at least the Burmese government asked the U.S. for satellite pictures -- that's kind of like checking out the extent of human suffering from 30,000 ft. It sends a message that you care.
While we're at it, I think we should give China a stern tongue-lashing about human rights.
I thought a "Cyclone" was that metal thing from Battlestar Galactica

| Once again, the Republotards attacking from where they are weakest. If Bush cared about human beings, then he'd have maybe pushed for something prior to the cylons invading Myanmar, like forcing the junta to be more democratic, more free, and bring in Red Crescent before there was an emergency. But doing things before an emergency exists is called leadership, and Emperor s***forbrains doesn't engage in that. |

View this Comment Doesn't look like McCain will be much better: Michael Isikoff reported that the man chosen by John McCain's presidential campaign to run this summer's GOP convention--Arizonan Doug Goodyear--was causing some headaches within the ranks. Why? Isikoff's revelation that DCI was paid $348,000 in 2002 to represent Burma's military junta, leading "a PR campaign to burnish the junta's image, drafting releases praising Burma's efforts to curb the drug trade and denouncing 'falsehoods' by the Bush administration that the regime engaged in rape and other abuses." Ouch. [link:www.newsweek.com] Guess McCain has fired the guy now, but what about McCain's judgment? This man worries me. |

View this Comment McCain thought the guy was a Burma Shave salesman, that's all. You have to keep in mind that that brushless shaving cream was a radical invention when it was first introduced in 1925. Who would of thought that you could get a decent shave without a brush?! What will those young whipper-snappers think of next?!!! It rocked Little John Sidney's world, and the rest of Our Gang. John McCain's future cabinet. |
