I just came across this article in the British Telegraph:Rev Jeremiah Wright to retire in 'white suburb' and if this guy were a racist, would he be willing to live in a suburban million-dollar home in upscale Chicago wehre (dare I speak it) "white" folks predominate?
No disconnect here-- no, really!
I don't think a million bucks buys the same kind of real estate people imagine anymore. In California-- hell, here in Phoenix-- you need a quarter of that just to get a two-bedroom ranch from the 1960's!
But what do you want to think that so much more of it will be made, no?

| CLB, It seems quite clear to me what $1,000,000.00 will buy you: "Grateful parishioners of Rev Jeremiah Wright, 66, are building him a $1 million, 10,400 sq ft mansion, next to a country club and golf course in the prosperous Chicago suburb of Tinley Park. In the 2000 census, just two per cent of Tinley Park’s 48,400 residents were black and 93 per cent were white." Not exactly a 1960's ranch style now is it? Nobody wants to live in what the Telegraph described as, "the heart of the city’s rundown and predominantly African-American South Side". I am curious as to where the upscale "upper-middle class" Black area is near Chicago? 10,400 sq.ft. is not even close to middle class. The Telegraph calls it that but I as you, know that isn't the case. 10,400 sq. ft. is loaded. It's rich, it is in fact, the top 1%. I would live there too if I didn't already live in the upper 1% area of Phoenix. But I am not a huge fan of snow as I was in my youth. The point is, anyone would want to live there, especially when it is free. I wonder if Wright would have taken a 1200 sq.ft flat in South Side Chicago if it were free? I wouldn't. I doubt he would either. In that case I would be called racist. He would be called what? Crime riddled areas are crime riddled areas with or without dark skinned people. But my refusal to live in such an area for free would create for me a label. Oh he's a racist alright. he doesn't like Blacks. Wlcome to Whitey Town Rev. Wright, you've earned it. |
