As I listened to the news on the radio today I heard a little blurb on the Katrina investigations going on in Washington. I got the impression that there had been some interesting things said and hoped that later I might hear more. Oh boy, did I hear more. One of the radio stations that I listened to later in the day had the investigation as one of it's topics of the day and they had quite a few cuts from the the hearings.

I must be honest, I thought I might hear something resembling factual evidence of corruption, mismanagement of moneys intended to go to the construction of levees, even the occasional assault on Bush and his FEMA director. Instead I heard people who had survived tell tales of soldiers pointing guns at them, stories of racial slurs being bantied about and how one woman thought she was going to be shot when she was ushered out of a building and lined up near other survivors. All of these tales had one thing in common, none of them would have happened if the locals wouldn't have been BLACK.

I think that it would have been nice for someone to mention the fact that New Orleans is a predominantly black populated city, the city government is predominantly black and the state government is predominantly black.

Then to top it all off a woman claimed to have been a witness to the destruction of the levy by way of explosives. She said that whoever blew up the levy only did so because it was all poor black people down stream.  I actually said out loud in my car, "give me a break". This is a theory first put forward by Louis Farrakhan just days after the disaster. I fear for people who hear one rumor from a man known to be on the constant alert for anything that might raise tensions between whites and blacks and instantly receive it as fact.

There is plenty of evidence to indicate what actually caused this tragedy, it is called a hurricane. This act of nature caused this devastation, not the mythical blowing up of a levy. The hurricane had an accomplice to be sure, it is called incompetency. The local government had all the money it needed 10 years ago to improve the levy system around New Orleans, however, they chose not to spend the money on the levees. Instead they funneled it into everything from education to low income housing. A lot of good low income housing does a flooded city.

Then there is the FEMA debate. FEMA sets out in it's own literature that in the event of a natural catastrophe any city or county in the nation will need to be prepared to handle it on their own for the first 48-72 hours. Now, I can see this being the case in California with an earthquake or in Kansas or Oklahoma with tornados, they give you no warning and the locals have to be ready. So what's the excuse for New Orleans and the state itself. They new this hurricane was coming for a week. So too did FEMA. However, FEMA is not in charge of the city. The Federal Government is like the devil in some regards, you have too invite them in for help. The governor of La. waited 24 hours after the break to call in the feds to help. Bush offered assistance prior to the hurricane making landfall and spoke with both the governor and the mayor. The mayor spent his time getting publicity on T.V. while over 1000 buses that could have helped people escape filled with water and became worthless. (worthy to mention here, he is black) Are all these "witnesses" saying that this was a racially motivated hurricane or are they accusing the city of a black on black crime.

As for Farrakhan, look to Jesse Jackson, he hasn't even tried using the race card here, that should be some indication that it is not needed in this situation. Al Sharpten has avoided it like the plague.

I also heard that the government isn't "fixing" New Orleans fast enough. Why should they rebuild the city on the same spot and why should our tax dollars be the only money used for it. When you have a city built below sea level with a big ass lake behind it, is it that hard to conceive a reality where the city floods, again. It seems to me the smart thing to do would be to build the city higher, up stream or in a different place all together. Believe me, if rebuilding was racially motivated whites would be praying to rebuild it in the same spot so more black would get killed next hurricane season.

I know what some of you are going to say, it is our heritage. Well sorry folks, if your heritage is based on a bad idea Darwin just made a subtle suggestion to you. It is as stupid as losing your mobile home to a tornado then buying another one and putting it in the same Kansas trailer park.

But aside from the stupidity of rebuilding below sea level, can we stop claiming that every time a black person gets hurt or injured in this country that it's racially motivated. This is just stupid.

All black people are not the targets of all white people. As long as blacks hold on to this idea they will never have a chance to enjoy all that America has to offer. Besides, I got the news letter in the mail today, we have shifted our hatred to Mexicans.
