What ever happened to the rumor that floated around last year at this time about the bird flu,(Avian Influenza), case that supposedly hit Arizona? I remember reading about it somewhere before I joined here as a member. I looked through as many old articles as I could but I never found it. Well, I figure it's about time for that to start resurfacing again especially seeings how they can't seem to get it under control in Indonesia and Vietnam. From what I can tell it looks more like a way for Big Pharm to scare people into buying more drugs considering that more people die every year from a bad rash than they do the bird flu.

Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld has made more than $5 million from selling shares in the firm that discovered and developed the drug tamaflu, which is being touted as a panacea for the Asian Bird Flu hysteria. Rumsfeld also retained shares worth $25 million or more. Tamaflu is being bought in mass quantities by the U.S. Government in order to treat a predicted outbreak of Asian Bird Flu! This is a major conflict of interest. The drug was developed by Gilead Sciences. Rumsfeld was on the board of Gilead between 1988 and 2001, and was chairman starting in 1997. When he left to join the Bush administration he retained the large shareholding. The most fascinating thing to point out is that in 2003, the year just before concerns about the Asian Bird Flu epidemic began, the company actually lost money. The very next year tamaflu sales tripled, being purchased by the U.S. Government, and then nearly quadrupled again in 2005. The stock price soared and Rumsfeld made millions. Dr. Mercola states, “The fact is that government is controlling the media that justifies the purchasing of large amounts of drugs for nonexistent epidemics such as the Asian Bird Flu. When these purchases directly personally benefit a current U.S. defense secretary such as Donald Rumsfeld we have to admit this is a major conflict of interest. This is nothing new for Rumsfeld as he has a long history of crossing the borders between the healthcare industry, food industry, and government. He personally got the FDA to approve the cancer causing agent aspartame, which is being sold as NutraSweet. It is important for you to realize that those in the highest levels of authority in our government are working closely with businesses, lying to us so they can line their pockets with millions of dollars.”
By the way, all that Tamaflu that Bu$h bought has expired.....
And never proved to be effective anyway...
