Now that the Republican Party has chosen Senator John McCain as its presidential nominee, it seems some party faithful will have to just get over their extreme distaste for the candidate.
But that is a good thing. George W. Bush was propelled into office by the Supremes and the faithful. We don’t want that tribulation visited upon us again by these extremists, and McCain’s lockup of the nomination pretty much precludes that.
Ron Paul was the best this Republican Party had to offer in the way of a reasonable Conservative of the old cloth, but the party faithful have moved on to something else. Ron Paul and others in the Republican Party are old eagles flocking with the chicken hawks, end-timers and outright Fascists that as a coalition have usurped the GOP.
I’m not sure how Barry Goldwater would think about this, but I suspect he would be less than ecstatic over the choices this time around. The GOP has moved in a different direction from the GOP of his time and before. My guess is that he would support Ron Paul as the only real torch bearer of the lot. But given der new reality, McCain at least has the best interest of America at heart – more than can be said for much of the faith based cadre that calls itself Republican or Conservative.
So John McCain is the best we can expect from this deviant party.
Let’s hear it for John McCain. He IS the one.
Just get over it.

The Republicans, on the other hand, seem to have faced a choice between men who are despised by huge factions of the party faithful. In the end, McCain emerges as the man who is hated the least by the greatest number within the party. That is not an auspicious beginning to the real contest that is to come.
