William, is this the way you would respond to a concern from your constituency?

I have attached the following request as a comment to each of two of your articles. I have seen not a word written in response. Perhaps you don’t go back and read comments. Or perhaps you are formulating your position on this issue. In any event, I thought I should elevate the request to the status of an article so that you might have a better chance of noticing it.

The verbiage within double quotation marks is take from your original article. O.K., here it is again.

William, let's focus on a single issue: What is your position on illegal aliens? Not legal migrants - illegal aliens.

Please expound on each point below, point-by-point:
1. Enforce laws on the books OR generate new laws that will not be enforced?
2. Crackdown hard on employers who hire illegal aliens, OR flaunt the law as usual?
3. Secure our border with Mexico OR open borders?
4. Amnesty/green cards/path to citizenship for them OR roundup and deportation?
5. Wage depression for poor Americans VS labor for "jobs that Americans won’t do"?
6. Do you support the mass demonstrations by the illegal aliens and their supporters in our country?

No pabulum! A well thought out concrete well-defined position with sharp edges is what is called for here.

“… nobody wanted the job they were doing at the wages offered.” Good point, but do you think that it is a good situation, or a bad situation? Please address point #5. above.

“Are they illegal: yes they are but they should get the same legal that companies like Halliburton get.” I don’t understand that position. Please explain it.

“You can't take out and send all twelve millions illegal out of country. It would be very costly … Just crunch the number on your own.” Did you crunch the numbers? Pabulum won’t do, William. Concrete figures only, if you please. If I have to crunch the numbers I predict that the answer will be extremely cost effective. Perhaps you could crunch some numbers for us and put them in your response to point #4. above, eh what?

“The solution may take a year or two but one can be obtain as long as everyone stays focus.” What solution, William?!? You identified a problem, but I didn’t see a solution. What’s your comprehensive solution that addresses each and every one of the various dimensions of the problem (let point 1. through 6. above be your guide)?

As a candidate for office, please flesh out your position on this single issue. To Hell with what anyone thinks – vintage William is what I am looking for here.

Now William, I don’t comment much on your articles. I assume you read peoples’ comments. As a candidate for office, I am sure you LISTEN to your potential constituency. You wouldn’t be a very good candidate if all you did was transmit and never receive.

AC, your point on flooding the Most Recent Articles section is well taken.

But I might have to take the fall for that. Upon examining the date/time stamps, it appears that William posted (2006-04-28 at 5:24 PM ) while I was out in Word composing this article. At any rate, I didn’t see his response, which apparently was to my comment on his previous article rather than to this posted (2006-04-28 at 5:53 PM ) article.

Let me suggest to William that we continue the dialog with comments appended to this article so as minimize the impact.

“Lets take one step and I am not going to answer all your questions at once because I want you to response after every answer. Here goes.

“1. If you don't enforce the laws on the books, how can new laws added to the books do any good? There have been laws on the books about hiring illegal citizens in the workforce within the borders of the USA. If there are laws needed to tweek the laws of the land, I would need some time to examine. Do I get as much time to check this out. After all, I only arrived in the politic scene in 2002. Just to clarify, I was a write-in candidate in 2002 and 2004. Results-you can look up so you all poke fun but I don't care. I will still represent you.”

William, you are answering a question with a question, and then you regurgitate a fact that is well known – we have laws in place that should deal with this. Boilerplate answer, my friend. Do I taste pabulum?

What’s your position? Am I to glean from this that you are:
o in support of enforcing current laws diligently;
o might consider modifying those laws;
o but are against new laws?

Raise one finger for yes; two fingers for no.

And now you’ve raised a new question: isn’t “illegal citizens” an oxymoron? Yours is not the first reference to that - I noticed motherwolf also used the term "ILLEGAL citizens", although the capitalization could indicate that it might have been consciously tongue-in-cheek with her.

This is a disturbing phrase that may reflect an uncritical thought process on the part of the user. Please clarify just how one can achieve illegal citizenship.

Well, I am glad to see that at least I began to answer the questions but you didn't appreciate this fact. The fact that they didn't sanction Halliburton who were caught using illegals in the Gulf Coast area leads me to believe that this government won't enforce the laws on the book.
3. I personally like the electronic fence on the border and not the physical fence that the minutemen are constructing. After all, we are the kinder, gentler nation, are we? Oh snap, I am agree with the Governor which probaly mean that I lean left. I don't but there will be people who think that. Secondly, I think that our border need to be patrol by the National Guard(Weekend training and their two weeks training) and border patrol with a more frequent but stagging patrol. With the thousand of people we will catch; until deported, we will probaly need a tent city because this will be the cheapest way to house so many(just like sheriff joe(a Republican-which mean now that I lean to the right). There will be more later. ThankYou.

William, it’s obvious that the laws on the books are not being enforced. How do you propose we make our government enforce those laws?

And what about that “illegal citizen” question? How does one become one of those? You forgot to clarify that.

Tent city is an interesting idea. Maybe that is what Chertoff is doing with Halliburton:
“Michael Chertoff, who is so incompetent running Homeland Security his behavior borders on criminal, is quietly spending $387 million with a Halliburton subsidiary to construct detention camps at secret locations across America to house up to several hundred thousand people for the undefined "rapid development of new programs."”

3. Open border with the normal restrictions because we are the people who got the walls torned around the world. After all, was it not president G was stated that we are a kinder and gentler nation?

5. depressed wages- just away to keep the wages low by big businesses and tell you the blame goes to someone else.

6. do they have the right? One would have to look at our society. We need a constant reminder that we have a problem and their demonstrating, tell us the problem will not go away unless we do something. I kinda know what you want but is that the true solution or is it because you are part of the Americans who feel this way. Is there a true solution which accomplish what most people want. I think so but we need to think with an open mind.
Anything else?
