Our Justice Department has nothing else to do. Lets get the guys who are defending our borders but can't afford to defend themselves with the best legal defense money can buy. Two Border Patrol Agents have been found guilty of numerous charges as if they were criminals for attempting to apprehend a criminal drug smuggler at the Mexican border. Here's a little background on what happened.

Ramos, 37, and Compean, 28, were convicted of assault with serious bodily injury, assault with a deadly weapon, discharge of a firearm in relation to a crime of violence and a civil-rights violation. Aldrete-Davila, the Mexican the agents were pursuing, was in possession of more than $1 million worth of marijuana, which he had brought into the United States through the small town of Fabens, Texas.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Deborah Kanof, who successfully prosecuted both men, argued during the trial that it was not the agents' job to pursue Davila in the first place.

They face a minimum mandatory sentence of 10 years with a recommendation of 20 years.

They ended up wounding this criminal in the chase after he turned on one of the agents with what looked like a gun and he was fired upon and hit in the rear end. After he escaped to Mexico a US Department of Homeland Security Investigator hunted down this criminal, not to arrest him, but to give him immunity if he testified against the Border Patrol Agents that shot him.

Can you believe that? It was never discovered if what was brandished at the agents was indeed a gun, but it is quite possible in my opinion. The fact that these two were doing their jobs and trying to stop drug smuggling and then being convicted on criminal charges for doing their jobs is a travesty and every American should be outraged.

On top of this the criminal, Aldrete-Davila, is now suing the US for $5 million dollars for violating his civil rights. His civil rights to smuggle drugs.

What kind of message are we sending to law enforcement? That if you try to do your job you could potentially be put away in jail for a long time? Where do I sign up!

Here's what you can do to help. Grassfire,.org has set up a petition that is being sent to Congress urging President Bush to pardon these two of their convictions. They're trying to receive 100,000 signatures before they send it on. They currently have over 63,000 as of this writing.
