I've always respected Mr. Nader. He has done more good for this country than just about every damn politician out there. I realize he wants the candidates to focus more on progressive issues and if that's his only goal great, but voting for this guy would be like voting for a ham sandwich.
Without forming an uber-independent-team with Bloomberg I don't see Nader causing many waves. I think he just clicked on "auto apply" from his home computer.
Nader has a stated goal of offering an alternative to Hillary, but why, with her candidacy looking less likely every day, does he want to enter the race against two candidates that independents are very supportive of? I would've had a hard time choosing between Obama and McCain if J. Mac was the same guy he was in 2000.

| He killed the Corvair... because Ford was supporting him financially. Yet said nothing about the Ford Pinto, the most explosive car ever put on the road.

| Whoa, pimping for the Corvair? My mom's neighbors' drive still has oil stains from their kid's Corvair rebuild project car, and that was in the early 90's.

View this Comment LIAR............. But success was not to last. Consumer activist Ralph Nader, who had gained fame criticizing the Chevrolet Corvair as unsafe, helped lead a press conference that charged Ford with sacrificing human lives for profit. The bad publicity, together with a record jury verdict in favor of a young man severely burned in a Pinto fire, spelled doom for the car, and the 1980 model was the last produced. http://www.legalaffairs.org/issues/November-December-2005/scene_longhine_novdec05.msp

| No, Postal, I knew that Nader had also taken on Ford over the Pinto. My point on the Corvair was it was a piece of s***, that leaked oil, the steering wheel impaled the driver, they had no shoulder belts and had a tendency that in any accident, both driver and passenger wound up with massive head injuries and dead. Plus, the Corvair was inflicted on the US public the 60's, and the Pinto along with the Ford Maverick were 70's abominations, if memory serves me right. And I just checked at WIKI, and yes Corvairs were built from 1960-69. Pinto's were built from 1970-1980. So, it would have been next to impossible for Nader to go after the Pinto, before or even at the same time as the Corvair, seeing as the Corvair was out of production before the first Pinto was off the line. Also, what got Ford in trouble over the Pinto was the memos making the case that it would be cheaper to let people burn and sue, than to fix the cars. Also, "Only 27 people ever died in Pinto fires. Given the Pinto's production figures (over 2 million built), this was no worse than typical for the time. Schwartz argued that the car was no more fire-prone than other cars of the time, that its fatality rates were lower than comparably sized imported automobiles, and that the supposed "smoking gun" document that plaintiffs claimed showed Ford's callousness in designing the Pinto was a document based on National Highway Traffic Safety Administration regulations about the value of a human life rather than a document used to design the Pinto." So, what other idiotic, easily disprovable fine right wing logical points must be blasted to smithereens today? Also, people, before you hit the comment button, maybe you should check your own stupid facts first, before you make me do it for you. Go to wikipedia, and just look up the fact you are spouting as true. If little problems occur, like, space, time or basic logic destroy your argument in the real world, maybe you should not post the comment. |

They had offered optional safety features to the public only to discover that the public was more interested in bigger engines and flashier tail fins. The Ford effort to sell cars on the basis of safety had fallen flat. Thus the auto manufactures shared responsibility for poor auto safety with the amerivan public which was not interested in safety features or a safer design." Also, Nader's "Unsafe at any speed was released after GM had fixed the problem with the Corvair swing axle so it was Bulls*** from the get go. Ford was one of the first corporate sponsers of Public Interest Research Group along with the money he won suing GM. You might want to research just a hair before you call bulls***. |
