The bottom line is that JESUS himself was tortured and murdered, if it was good enough for Jesus it is good enough for Christians....

Jesus was, after all, a rabid liberal, not just un-patriotic of the Roman State but a traitorous, subversive dissident criminal.  And that is just to the State.

To the Church, he was a heretic, an anarchist, provocatuer, evil bastard.

He deserved the treatment he got, according to the LAW and the CHURCH.

How so little has changed...........mostly due to 'christians' like hypocrite and his ilk.....

3.  Pontius Pilate, the Roman Procounsel did not seem to think that Jesus Christ was a provocatuer, although he identified Barabas as one.  Who better to tell the difference??
4.  An " evil bastard"?  I don't know what they thought, but if Christ was conceived of the Spirit of God and the Virgin Mary they are in BIG trouble if they did indeed call him that!

While no one deserves that kind of treatment, technicallly you are correct when you write " according to the LAW and the CHURCH".  That is precisely why Jesus Christ went through this.  He fulfilled the beginning of his mission, as he explained before the Earthly powers that were:"To this end I was born and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the Truth.  Everyone that is of the truth hearest my voice."

But it has changed.  We don't allow Crucifixtion any more.  Do we?!?  The coliseum hasn't been converted from football to spectacles for the masses (yet).  But the ilk do need their diversion, and torture has now been placed on the table.

Indeed, Jesus's beef was not with Rome, but he did not give Caesar unlimited power to determine what was Caesar's... and the state was not First in Jesus's life or teachings.  He had a "higher Father" than Caesar.

Of course you are correct here, the Crucifixtions are gone, we now dispense of the innocent in massive Game-Boy console remote controlled rockets, cluster bombs, Napalm and the occasional white phosphorus.

The false prophets and the throngs that follow blindly cannot be the evolution of Jesus Christ's teachings.  I cannot but wonder if, walking among us in the flesh today as he did long ago, he would embrace this movement we champion called Christianity.

I am convinced that if our Lord Jesus Christ decided to walk among us here and now as he did back then, the same old story would be repeated.  The money changers are in the temple and the Pharasees and saducees of biblical times are the prototype for our current crop of political and religious "leaders" armed with potent new propaganda weapons to stuff the minds of the throngs into the straight jacket thinking of their narrow zealotry.

A cousin in-law and I enjoy arguing and on occassion even agreeing on  things political, and your statement would ring true wilth him, only more so.

 As for myself, I pray our Lord Jesus Christ would keep my feet firmly on the path he has laid out for me even under the unbelievable stress and emotion that you are speaking of.  I judge no one but myself- we each travel our own path.  But  I know that torture is forbidden abhorent abomination and diminishes the torturer as well as the tortured.

I like the story of how Jesus Christ took up dust in his hand, spat in it to make mud, and made a blind man see by applying it to the blind man's eyes.
