How has this Congress(the 109th) rewarded the thirst of knowledge by the youth of America; they cut the Pell Grants's money by 12.7 billion dollars over the next ten years thus making it harder to go to college.
What could be the reasoning behind this insanity? Did I forget that the top one percent needed a tax cut and who could best afford the lost of funds: the student right?
With the U. S. falling behind the world in many fields of education, it only makes sense to make it harder for the students to seek higher education. Now it sounds like I have a querulous attitude about this because they are getting richer and the adult population will get dumber by a lack of college in the future.
My solution is simple: reverse the tax cuts and invest in the future, our children. What better use do we have for the money?

It's pretty clear the Bush Administration publicizes one thing and does the opposite in the legislative arena.
More than a dozen states are suing the Feds because No Child Left Behind imposes new and costly rules on their education systems and, if not met, their Federal funding for education is jeopardized. Yet the Republican-controlled Congress still has not authorized the necessary funding for No Child...
In his 2004 SOTU, Bush extolled the increases he was seeking for the Pells - actually the Bush proposals did increase the appropriation but the rate of increase set a historic low. This year, as you point out, Bush trashed the Pell Grants without even a mention in his 2005 SOTU.
Thanks for publicizing the truth behind all the Bush chest thumping! Keep it up - the truth shall set us free!
