I know alot of you listen to the Air America network programmes. I know that for the most part, the people who present the programmes there are mostly doing it because they honestly want to see the truth and "alternative opinions" get heard as well as the "accepted opinions" of the regular media outlets. I am sure that they try to be fair and balanced in thier programming and choosing of guests. I am sure that the Air America shows want to put out a full disclosure of facts, and leave the listener to find for him or herself an opinion based on it.
However, today on "A Different View", this was lost with a guest speaker who supposedly going to give the listeners information regarding Islam. I think the moderater of this programme forgot that the audience is mostly unknowing, or misinformed by the regular media about us. I like this programme, but wish that the moderator would have stuck to his promise to "inform the listener about Islam" rather than let this guest become political and the conversation fall into the usual media traps that keep us from learning fact and not speculation.
We...at least I...a person of Islam want to speak out and say what we believe. I want to say that I do not like the persons who wish to impose Islam on another (in fact, Islam is not, or should not be forced on anyone according to the Qur'an) through violence or any other means. However, I do not have a media outlet.
I am asking for your help Air America.
Please get guests who are really informed about us. Ask for guests who will not give sanction to any policy but will give a Muslim view to a non Muslim audience. We have had enough of "Islamic experts" who have never even opened a Qur'an. Time to change now.
Peace Be Unto You All...

Zan,
I can't remember a single subject on which you and I have ever agreed. But you have stumbled over one here. Americans do not understand Islam for the most part. We have little idea what you believe (outside of the prophet Mohammad who l think most liken to Moses). What little knowledge I have is embarassing to me as I like to think I am somewhat informed on a number of issues. I know of his time in Medina, his attack on Mecca and his death two short years later.
I do know that the religion he introduced spread like wild fire across the Arab world. The fracturing of Islam I see as being something like the fracturing of Christianinty after Calvin and Luther called the Catholics on their hypocracy. Am I even close?
I would suggest that the next time a show has a subject like this that you call in. You can not expect the uninformed to educate the uninformed.
I know I could spend some time running the internet and gaining this knowledge, but I ask in what source I should put my trust when researching Islam? Only the Koran?
Help an uneducated Protestant in his quest for knowledge.
