What is happening with the election?

Voters, centrists, moderates and middle class Republicans are losing confidence in McCain. Why?

1. Caribou Barbie
2. The economy
3. McCain's negative campaign

Now, negative campaigns aren't completely bad, they tend to be much more factual, and clearer on issues than the positive, photos of the family, American flag waving, Mt. Rushmore ads. The problem is that McCain is running a "be afraid - who is Obama" campaign. And Sen. Obama has been running for President for 18 months, he's been vetted, he ran in the longest primary ever, and all these attacks have been made by Hillary. So the "who is Obama?" question was answered, and 65-70% of Americans are OK with him.

Agree with all you say, Phaedrus!  To me, voter confidence distills all these issues to a single factor.  Obama has it, McSame doesn't. 

But, can you think of anything - anything - McSame can do restore voter confidence?  I can't - hell, he can't even cut Sarah loose now!

I just got an astounding e-mail from a Republican consultant I know well. He's a guy who's always thought Obama had a "glass jaw," and was always among those agitating for hitting Obama harder.

Recently, he conducted a focus group in an upper-Midwestern state, showing them the kind of ad he thought would work: A no-holds-barred attack, cut for an independent group, which hasn't aired.

I'm just going to reprint his amazed e-mail about the focus group:

Reagan Dems and Independents. Call them blue-collar plus. Slightly more Target than Walmart.

Yes, the spot worked. Yes, they believed the charges against Obama. Yes, they actually think he's too liberal, consorts with bad people and WON'T BE A GOOD PRESIDENT...but they STILL don't give a f***. They said right out, "He won't do anything better than McCain" but they're STILL voting for Obama.

The two most unreal moments of my professional life of watching focus groups:

54 year-old white male, voted Kerry '04, Bush '00, Dole '96, hunter, NASCAR fan...hard for Obama said: "I'm gonna hate him the minute I vote for him. He's gonna be a bad president. But I won't ever vote for another god-damn Republican. I want the government to take over all of Wall Street and bankers and the car companies and Wal-Mart run this county like we used to when Reagan was President."

The next was a woman, late 50s, Democrat but strongly pro-life. Loved B. and H. Clinton, loved Bush in 2000. "Well, I don't know much about this terrorist group Barack used to be in with that Weather guy but I'm sick of paying for health insurance at work and that's why I'm supporting Barack."

I felt like I was taking crazy pills.  I sat on the other side of the glass and realized...this really is the Apocalypse. The Seventh Seal is broken and its time for eight years of pure, delicious crazy....

 

Get that last part - voters focusing on issues, and ignoring racist attacks and name calling and commie pinko fag attacks, that is for Republicans, the apocalypse.

What can McBush do?

1. Photos of Obama with barnyard animals.
2. Photos of Biden and Obama with Nathan Lane with barnyard animals.
3. Alien invasion - although this would be blamed on Bush, and McBush by proxy.
4. Attack from North Korea, China, Russia, Cuba and Iran, using sharks with knives leading pitbulls with aids. But could be blamed on Bush
5. burning bush tells people that McCain is the newest savior, has stone tablets demanding more tax cuts.

What can Messiah do?

1. Continue to hide Michelle in a closet

2. Continue to lie about his associations

3. Continue to claim racism

4. Continue to free airtime from MSM

I'm sorry, what is Michelle Obama running for? And how is going on the View, and other shows hiding?

And who is lying about Obama's associations? Obama has answered every question, the people who are lying are the McCain team.

As for claiming racism, when has Obama done that? Even during the Indiana primary, when vandals broke in to one of their offices, and trashed the place, spray painting racist slurs on the walls, the Obama team didn't make an issue out of it.

Free media air time? The fact checkers, and media watchers are showing that both guys are getting equal airtime on the Network broadcasts, and both are getting similar positive/ negative/ neutral time.

Yeah Olbermann is soooooo smart.

You didn't have to go very far into Tuesday's Special Education Komment to find the infamous, deplorable Keith Olbermann once again twisting reality to smear Sarah Palin. To wit:

1:25 p.m. Eastern Time, today, in Scranton, Pennsylvania. During the warm-up act by a red meat Congressional candidate aptly named Chris Hackett, Hackett mentions Obama and a Palin audience member shouts, "Kill Him." And Gov. Palin, as usual, does nothing about it; says nothing to these thugs and psychos. She may not have heard this one. It is impossible to believe that by now she has not heard about the other ones. Her silence is deafening.

She may not have heard it? Here's the report from the Scranton Times-Tribune that Oralmann used as his source. It confirms that was said at 1:25 pm. So far so good.

But what is Herr Olbermahn not telling us? Here's what Bathtub Boy left out:

1:40 p.m.: The press pool has arrived at Riverfront Sports. Gov. Palin should arrive shortly.

1:56 p.m.: Gov. Palin, accompanied by her husband, Todd, walked onstage to a rousing reception by the Riverfront Sports crowd as the theme from "Rocky" played.

What's this? Gov Palin hadn't even arrived when some doofus shouted "Kill Him"! Oralmann twists the facts by saying "she may not have heard" it. May not?!? She wasn't even there! "Her silence was deafening." Well, it is kind of hard to be heard when you are in a motorcade miles away.
