I would like to make an appeal to our members to refrain from personal attacks and using abusive and derogatory language on this site. The Voice of North America site for the most part is unedited and uncensored. There are tools available to the members such as the abuse button to help control the site, but I’m disturbed by what seems to be systematic abuses.
From time to time I know that tempers flare and sometimes it can get the best of us when we are in the heat of a discussion. That’s ok, you never know when you can change ones mind or just agree to disagree. My hope is that all will show self-discipline when in the heat of the battle. It’s all in the fun of politics! Many of you enjoy the lively debates and I do as well, I hope that it continues.
There have been many years of hard work on this site to make it one of the best forums around for discussions. At this point I do not believe it is necessary to ban or edit this site. I have faith that the members of this site will support my request to keep this site one of the best forums around.
On behalf of our staff I would like to thank all of you for your support and contribution to Voice of North America, and I appreciate our members policing the site and keeping it the best that it can be.

View this Comment Actually, we are all grown ups here. the day this site becomes moderated by anything or anyone more than our own ability to ignore or destroy, is the day I'm out of it. Free speech is not free. We've all heard it said before. But this site is unique in that we the people (of VONA at least) can chose to participate or not participate and to comment or not comment. We all know that people like our resident congressional candidate only come here because we pay a little attention to them. If we did not, he would go away. But we know he is harmless so we feed him a little attention occasionally out of pity. We get told what to do and think by enough sources in this country. Michelle made a suggestion, nothing more. She did not threaten to do anything. We all know she could have if she wanted too, cut us to the deep. I respect that much more than a rules maker. Thanks again Michelle for treating us like adults. |

| I know I've been in my fair share of battles with people on this site, usually about non-political things, but battles none the less. Anyway, I usually try to maintain a decent dialogue, but I've been pushed to the point where I've gotten a little bit nasty with people, and I'm sure I've ran off done my part to run a few people off the site. Anyway, as being a person that really doesn't care much for politics, I could see how some of the battles might scare away people from writing or commenting about non-political subjects, which I'm more apt to participate in. One thing I would like to see on the website, is the return of the categories so if I want to speak my mind about how I hate talking to Indians when I call tech support, I can do that without it getting buried to the abyss with Obama this and Hillary that talk. Anyway, just wanted to throw my 2 bucks in. |

| I agree with AC. There should be moderators. What makes this site great isn't the unrestrained ability to insult each other, but the open ability for every member to author his or her own articles, and the excellent user-friendly comment interface. In a perfect world, we would all behave like adults, as AA writes. But we have all acted like children before, and no doubt, we will again. Every other well-frequented blog site on the net has moderators, because otherwise the temptation to anonymously attack someone you disagree with becomes irresistible. There needs to be negative repercussions for attacking other people's right to a dialogue; someone to make people who are acting out stand in the corner until they cool off. That enhances free speech, and makes this a more welcoming place to attract new members. There is no moderator at present because the Voice staff does more than manage this website, and they are all busy as hell. By the time they are aware of "a problem," it has already been festering for several weeks. It needs to be a loyal and long-standing member -- one who has demonstrated an ability to remain above the fray (for the most part), and one who has a knack for defusing conflict and bringing us back to the matters at hand. I nominate AZ Moderate. Even his name connotes a neutral party. |

View this Comment even debates have moderators. thats why i said we need one, when we dont a debate turns into a pissing match which turns into a bunch of 2 year olds. all it takes is time. unfortunately voice has an anarchic user base full of people who would rather join in the pissing match then police each other. if theres one thing that i have ever said that everyone should trust as being true, without question; its that people are incapable of governing themselves when they are created equally. |
