There have been some things written in comment threads lately that I just couldn’t address in response to each.  So here goes the article:

AA says that Liberals are all about control.

It there truth to what AA says?
1) Who wants to control who can marry whom?  Liberals or Conservatives?
2) Who wants to restrict First Amendment Rights by banning the burning of the American flag?  Liberals or Conservatives?
3) Who wants to control life and death decisions between a husband and wife? Liberals or Conservatives?
4)  Who wants to allow warrantless wiretapping of Americans?  Liberals or Conservatives
5)  Which President holds the record for circumventing the Constitution and intent of laws via signing statements?  A Liberal or Conservative?
6) Who wants to dictate what a women can do with her own reproductive rights?  Liberals or Conservatives?
7)  Was it a Liberal or Conservative President who said "It is un-acceptable to think...."
HINT:  He is living in the White House.

8) Was it a Conservative or Liberal administration that decided that they could put you on a “watch list” when you want to fly, but don’t have to let you see why you are on it or allow you to challenge it?

It you answered CONSERVATIVE to all the above questions, you score 100 percent!

Here is something that Conservatives plainly can not control.  Spending.

Comparing the borrowing habits of the two parties since 1981, when the Neo-Conservative movement really took hold and government spending really has gone out of control, it is extremely obvious that the big spenders in Washington are Republican Presidents.  Looking at the only Democratic President since 1981, Mr. Clinton, who raised the national debt an average of 4.3% per year; the Republican Presidents (Reagan, Bush, and Bush) raised the debt an average of 10.8% per year.  That is, for every dollar a Democratic President has raised the national debt in the past 25 years Republican Presidents have raised the debt by $2.59.

And the worse offender is GW Bush-who had a Republican House and Senate.

On to another topic:   AA postulates that Liberals feel and Conservatives think.

Umm, let me think.  Nope, I do believe that is wrong.   The current Bush regime has done more to stifle science than any other.  See, facts might get in the way of their “gut feeling.”  This has been documented on many occasions.

Then there is just not even trying to govern using facts.  For instance, Dick Cheney said the insurgency is in its last throes.  Not a fact, just a feeling.  Or when Bush said in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006 that “we’re making progress in Iraq.”  No facts to back that up, but there is that gut feeling again.

It started earlier than Bush/Cheney of course.  Remember, “Morning in America”-the Reagan campaign slogan.  Geez, now that was some FEELING campaign slogan.  And don’t forget the cheesy commercial with the mist and mountains.  And how about GHW Bush’s slogan?  “God Bless the USA”, sung by Lee Greenwood.  Wow, didn’t we feel good? His opponent’s campaign song?—“Don’t stop thinking about tomorrow.”  More of a thinking - call to action sort of song.

Here is something else that bothers me immensely.  Why do Conservatives determine the value of a person by their net worth?  If you spend 65 hours a week at your jobs, (both husband and wife) and make beaucoup bucks annually are you more “successful” in life than the couple that decides that 40 hours, at much less annual salary, is enough because they want to spend those 25 hours a week each with their kids?  These are personal decisions and neither should be ridiculed.

Should a schoolteacher, who is paid crap for wages, be ridiculed because they don’t have a Chevy Tahoe?  Should a Tahoe owner ridicule a physician with a fancy house as an elitist?  Should a physician ridicule a forklift driver/mechanic as a blue-collar loser?  The answer to each of these is no.  And if you really are an average American, you see the value and the important role that each person plays in the success of America.  And the average American would cherish the freedoms that each of them had to make their own decisions.

But what would I know, I am not an Average American.  I am unique, along with 300 million of my unique fellow Americans.
