I'm not familiar with your show, but I tuned in this morning because it was just so exciting to have Air America back on the air again!! I'm making an assumption here that the show this morning included Average American on the illegal alien probelm we have in Arizona. If I'm incorrect and attributing the positions on the show this morning to someone else, pardon my ignorance. Average American's attack on George's accent was mean spirited. My grandmother spoke only german until she was 13, even though her family had been in America for two generations by then. Her german accent was with her forever, probably because she learned english as a teenager. But I'd like to start with the information brought forward by your last caller. He was the man who followed the legal path to citizenship, who paid $40K and spent 8 years doing it the legal way...BRAVO TO HIM. That exemplifies kind of hard work and persistence Americans were known for. Welcome to America. These legal immigrants are the Americans who are getting the biggest slap in the face when we talk about amnesty for the illegal aliens. These Americans followed the rule of law to come to America. But they're subject to a push for amnesty for those who break the law and are thus subject to a terrible double standard. Not that that double standard doesn't exist in other areas of government: Bush breaks the law a lot but isn't held accountable; Cheney shoots a man but isn't held accountable; McCain gets only a slap on the wrist after being real cozy with Charles Keating (I'm assuming you remember the savings & loan scandals); Scooter Libby is finally indicted; Jack Abramhoff is convicted as is Duke Cunningham. Will the facade of the double standard ever crumble so we'll 'get' Bush & Cheney...doubtful. Yes, we democrats rile loudly in support of the double standard as it applies to legal immigrants and illegal aliens (as do those corporatist republicans interested only in the bottom line). Some of us use shame and guilt against anyone not supporting full amnesty. We call anyone supporting legal immigration racist or worse. We fall into the same category as Average American in telling George to learn good english. This is the dilemma for me: I cannot deem illegal aliens as non-law breakers precisely because I cannot deem Bush/Cheney as law abiding citizens. They're all criminals. Rather than offering full amnesty to those 11M illegal aliens currently working in the US, why not implement a guestworker program and give them (and employers) a choice: either get with the program or go home. If, indeed, they are coming to the US for work, then let us track them and know who they are and let them work for a specific period of time and remove the barriers to them returning home. But of even more importance, let us track the employers who give them work to make sure they're following the law and paying THEIR FAIR SHARE. We have laws on the books that would fine employers who hire illegal aliens, but they are not being enforced. We must start enforcing EMPLOYER COMPLIANCE with the laws currently on the books before we look to implement a guestworker program or offer flat out amnesty to anybody. As with immigrants who came to the US prior to the 1920's, let illegal aliens who come in under the guestworker program provide for their own families. Condition the transfer of family members to the US on the ability of the "workers" in the family to support them. Social services were not "free" for immigrants prior to 1920 because we had no social services programs. Immigrants had to take care of their own - all families had to take care of their own. These programs are not "free" to American citizens, nor should they be free for illegal aliens. Again, a very unjust double standard exists. Now on to your very first caller this morning, the gentleman who believed that the Southwestern US was truly really Northern Mexico: as Americans, we cannot dismiss this militant faction of illegal aliens coming into the US. They are coming to the US for an entirely different reason than looking for work. They're here to see to it that the Mexican flag again flies over the Southwest. Will they fly the Mexican flag on Monday? Politically correct organizers are asking them NOT to because of the message it sends. But make no mistake, Mexican flag or not, the intent is still there. This is just yet another reason (as if our national security wasn't enough) to know what foreign nationals are here and to be able to track them. Just to shed a little light on how the US got California: President Polk PAID for California. Yes it was all wrapped up in the Mexican American war, but California is bought and paid for. Michelle, I totally agree with you that we've got to shut down the border now. It's unfortunate that Gov. Napolitano talked tough about sending the Reserves down there but then failed to take any action. It's a lack of will like this that only fuels the fire for a border fence and calls the Minutemen to the border. I won't go on and on, but I will ask everyone one question: how do you explain the double standard - across the board - to your children and grandchildren? I myself am having a very difficult time trying to teach my children to obey all laws when it seems we're making exceptions all the time. Thank you for considering my opinions.

TO clarify my comments on his accent. He said he was born and raised here, his family had been here since 1918. He should have had a local accent if any, not a "I learn English sionce I got here" accent. There ws no intent to degrade, only comment that I thought the man was lieing about being here his whole life.

Mom2boys, welcome to VoA. I think you'll find a lively discussion about the operational solutions of the illegal immigrants here and we welcome your input. BAA Boy, apparently you got off another round without aiming first, eh? I hope the damage was limited to your credibility as a radio personality. As VoA poster boy, you should put some effort into learning proper etiquette rather following your NeoCon instinct of assuming the worst, then setting out to prove it with injudicious and rude comments. BAA! BAA!

| The problem of most left wingers on this site is they hide behind the keyboard and monitor. Stand up for what you believe and get on the show, so we can debate the issues in public. Regardless of your feelings for Average he has the guts to enter the lions den and take on all you people

Welcome tonyd! Some pitcher - neat-oh! I'm sure you're here to polish the Gipper's legend some more. That guy was so popular, he's even bigger now than when he was in office, right? The Comander-in-Chief who could do no wrong? The one who popularized the signing statement as a way around Congressional Intent and, hey, didn't he engineer another endrun around Congress with a little gun-running outta the White House basement? "No, that may have been the plot of another of Ronnie's B movies," she said shielding herself with her keyboard. Got anything more lions and rebukes to show us tony?

That's right June, Reagan was popular and still his. He made you feel good to be an American and he would of been in and out of Irag in a week and brought us Bin Ladens head on a plate. God Bless Ronald Reagan and God Bless Johnny Cash and God Bless John Wayne. See the light June, I am trying to help you. Let me show you the way it's not to late. I am here to educate and help you be a more informed person and see the light. Jesus loves you and so do I.
