Potential speech delivered by George W. Bush before the next election and shortly after the next terrorist attack:
My administration knew that there would be more attacks from these terrorist who hate us and our way of life, and are determined to destroy every one of us. If only more of you had believed me, and supported my war on terror, these new attacks would not have happened. Our security efforts were impaired by the Democrats' determined attempts to surrender to the terrorists, by forcing our withdrawal from Iraq, and by civil libertarian assaults on our necessary security measures. If only more Americans had trusted their government, this would not have happened.
Are these words that you could imaging coming from the lips of President Bush? What other historical figure does this sound like?
Now I have heard many confident predictions that the Bush crime family wouldn't dare orchestrate or permit to happen another 9-11. That if that were to happen, it would be the ultimate discredit to the Bush maxim of "we got to fight them there, so we don't have to fight them over here." Such an attack, I have heard postulated, would be the Bush Administration's ultimate undoing, once and for all.
But then I start to think about just how few people, relative to the US population as a whole, listen to liberal talk radio or actively search for their news on the internet. Forget about the millions of people that are spoon-feed right-wing intolerant fear-laden ideology all day long. These people - demonstrating the same eyeball tracking ability that Terri Shiavo once displayed - were and probably always will be beyond hope of regaining consciousness again. No, instead just think about the vast majority of Americans who are blissfully ignorant of politics or the world around them, except they know exactly who Sangaya is. Then the day of the next calamitous terrorist attack occurs, and for a brief frightened minute they pay attention to the TV news, just like they did after 9-11. They watch the news, and the above speech is what they hear from their President, with the Presidential Seal in the background. And for the thousands of us outraged political news junkies screaming, "Oh, my God, it's scripted just as we told you it would be! He's lying! Open your eyes, he did it!!!," there will be millions of others screaming, "Those goddamn Democrats and civil libertarians -- lock them up and throw away the key!!!"
We're are approaching the endgame here. Whether it is precipitated by another 9-11 and the enactment of NSPD 51, or it is an invasion of Iran (again with enactment of NSPD 51), we are close to the edge, and the greatest constitutional crisis we have ever experienced as a nation. Of course, to quoted John Nichols, "Impeachment is the cure for a constitutional crisis." It is a necessary but not sufficient condition for saving our Constitution, and even if Bush/Cheney are impeached, it may not be successful. The one thing we know for sure is that we wouldn't even be able to consider this option if Republicans still controlled the House and Senate. All hope is not lost . . . yet.
The one other thing we need to do is to reach as many people as we possibly can and tell them what kind of perverted Kabuki theater is being played out in front of their eyes. True, they may laugh at your conspiratorial ideas, much the same way that I was laughed at in 2003 when I tried to tell everybody I knew that we were lied into a war with Iraq. But maybe they will remember what you said when the above scenario starts to unfold in the upcoming months. Maybe they'll think, "Hmmm, this seems kind of familiar. Did I read a Tom Clancy novel like this?" Maybe then the people screaming for Bush and Cheney's heads will equal or exceed the numbers looking to line all the liberals up against the wall. Better yet, maybe we'll preemptively reach enough people to dissuade our desperate leaders from enacting my conspiratorial fantasies in the first place.
