I am an avid airsofter from Pennsylvania. I am also the team captain of a competition airsoft team called Team Task Force Devil. Here is our site; http://www.teamtfd.com
Who here plays airsoft? Who here has never heard of airsoft?
If you do play airsoft, let's hear about your experience with the game. How do you play? Do you have a team? What about playing competitively at local, regional or national events?
If you haven't played or never heard of airsoft, let me know. You are definitely missing out on a great experience. The game is great at building self confidence, friendships and sportsmanship.
Hope to hear from everyone soon.

| Pinb@llwizard: Airsoft was started in Japan roughly 25 years ago as an alternative for Japanese citizens to be involved in shooting sports. Since owning firearms in Japan has been illegal, the general public took to it right away. And so did the Japanese Defense Force and many police outfits. The first company to manufacture and sell airsoft products was Tokyo Marui, a large toy manufacturer. Other companies soon followed suit. Now, most of the airsoft equipment sold is either manufactured in China or Taiwan. Today airsoft guns can been seen in movies as props and stand-ins for real guns and all over the world in the competitve and honorable sport of Airsoft. Airsoft has been played all over Asia for years, and is taking the world by storm. Europe, the UK, the U.S., Canada and even South American countries have embraced the game. Airsoft can be many things to people; a sport, a hobby, military simulation, or a vehicle for reenactments. Most teams generally focus on military simulation, or MilSim. In MilSim, airsofters attend events where the event coordinators lay out a story line and give objectives to the teams involved. The story lines are usually based on military events that have happened or are sometimes completely fictitious although are based on events that may have or could occur. The average airsofter is male and between the ages of 18 and 35. I'm 38 and I know a lot of 50+ business men who play. Airsoft is an amazing sport. Yes, in some ways it resembles paintball, however it is not a "run and gun" game. It is a thinking man's (person's?) game. The most typical form of play is between 2 teams, donned in full military style outfits and gear, known as the loadout. It includes pouches for ammo, and other gear. Airsoft is a game of honor. When a player is hit they must call their hits. Serious players always call their hits as you don't want to be hit more times than necessary. And a player caught not calling their hits will not be welcomed back by the players who abide by the honor system that has worked for nearly 30 years. Airsoft equipment ranges from cheap spring operated single shot models, CO2 and other gas powered models to automatic electric guns (AEG's) that utilize an electric motor to power a piston that forces air out to fire the 6mm BB's. AEG's are by far the most popular airsoft guns to be used and can range in price for under $100 for low priced AEG's (LPEGS) to over $500 for high priced AEG's (HPEGS). Most airsoft enthusiasts purchase mid priced or MPAEG's. These run in the $125 - $200 range and offer a balance of decent quality and value. The game can be played among friends in a moderately small amount of space or can be as big as full on military based scenario events played on hundreds of acres. As I stated earlier, airsoft has become increasingly popular in the U.S., and Canada and the folks in Britain and Europe have gone nuts for it for several years. The U.S. military and many state and local police departments have adopted it for training purposes. Military simulation teams, such as my own, gather around the country every weekend, and even back yard airsofters abound. War hero, Col. Danny McKnight hosts the world's largest events at Ft. Knox, KY and Ft. Pickett, VA. Chief |
