Every morning in Africa a Gazelle wakes up.
The Gazelle must run faster than the fastest Lion to survive.
Every morning in Africa a Lion wakes up.
The Lion must run faster than the slowest Gazelle to survive.
So whether you are a Gazelle or a Lion,
when the sun comes up, you better be running.
I have this on my office wall and I may have referenced it prior, I don't recall if I did or just thought about it.
It has become something of a personal business motto for me.
But I believe is may soon be the motto of the Republican Party.
Think of it in these terms. Which is the better animal, the Lion or the Gazelle. There is no right answer of course, both are what they are. But in today's political climate you can associate either with either party.
Some may see McCain as a Lion and Hillary and Obama as Gazelles, or visa versa, doesn't really matter because right now you have either two Lions fighting over who will attack the Gazelle who is running at his own pace and not tiring himself out, or you have two Gazelles fighting about who will get away from the Lion who is resting up for the chase.
In the movie "Up a Creek" there is a scene where the three stars are attacked by a bear trying. One of the friends says "You can't outrun a bear" to which the other replies, "I don't have to, I just have to run faster than you".
It's like the old saying, "You don't have to be the best fighter in the world to win a fight, you just have to be better than the guy you are fighting at the moment".
The point is this, there is a good chance there will be a President McCain not because he will necessarily be the best candidate for the job, but because Hillary and Obama will tear a huge hole in the Democratic Party and it will net McCain either votes or stay at home voters not voting for the Democrat that "stole" the nomination from their person.
This is what the Dems thought would happen over the McCain/Romney fight. In the end Romney was the smarter politician than Hillary or Obama by securing for himself and his party a future and quite possibly another 4-8 in the White House.
At the end of the day McCain is more conservative, despite the fact that many like myself disagree with his views on immigration, his lack of support for the earlier tax cuts Bush endorsed, or his "independent"streak at times, he is the way, way,way better choice for our conservative views on a myriad of issues than either Obama or Clinton. The GOP still lives by the 11th commandment and it is what keeps us together even in the face of differences.
Face it guys, our animal is running for President and yours are squabbling for a nomination. You better get one of them running soon.
But what would I know; I'm just an Average American.

| "It's like the old saying, "You don't have to be the best fighter in the world to win a fight, you just have to be better than the guy you are fighting at the moment". Ain't that the truth. "there is a good chance there will be a President McCain not because he will necessarily be the best candidate for the job, but because Hillary and Obama will tear a huge hole in the Democratic Party" Precisely. "Romney was the smarter politician than Hillary or Obama" Not really. The race between McCain and Romney wasn't even close. Like Edwards, Romney "suspended" his campaign because unless the party front runner imploded, he didn't stand a chance. You couldn't really expect either Clinton or Obama to concede to the other when the contest is so tight. BTW, there is an outside chance that both Clinton and Obama "implode." Edwards??? "The GOP still lives by the 11th commandment and it is what keeps us together even in the face of differences." That IS the biggest strength the Republican Party has. It makes up for a dearth of good ideas. _______________________ Average, that was perhaps your best article out of all the 214 you have published so far. It was thoughtful, insightful, well-written, non-offensive, objective, honest, and dead-on. Did you forget your Average American rabble-rousing facade momentarily, and become the intelligent (if not misguided) man I know from conversations away from the microphone or keyboard? I'm sure it's too much to hope for that you stay this way, and I will brace myself for the return of your familiar idiot stage persona. |

The comment below from MIC would be a dream come true. Edwards was my choice. How, (if in fact Hillary and Obama were considered to be bad for the party and unelectable against McCain), would Edwards enter the process? Is this possible or are you just getting my hopes up? If both candidates damage each other, or themselves, so much that they are considered unelectable by the Democratic Party officials, the Party is not bound by any law to pick one or the other. As I mentioned in my last article, the Party is technically a club, and the club makes the rules. If they opt for the third path, that is that their right. However, such a move could easily destroy the Party unless the public at large was also convinced that both the existing candidates were fatally flawed. I do not see this happening short of learning that both Obama and Clinton are soliciting prostitutes. So let's just say that they were both undisputedly unelectable, and the Party and every Democrat recognized it. Who steps into the void. Not Al Gore, I'm afraid, because he seems to be genuine in his desire NOT to be President. So Edwards is the natural. Technically he's still in this race, since he merely suspended his campaign. He's also completely unbruised at this point, and for so many of us he ranked higher on our wish list than Obama or Clinton. He would also need to raise money fast, and that's a tall order for an anti-corporatist who will have to rebuild his grass-roots campaign from scratch. Anyway Bella, don't get your hopes up. In quantum physics, anything is possible. All the air in the room may suddenly rush to the other side, and I could be sitting in a vacuum. It's possible, but not likely. |
