Thank you Mr. Durbin for you very to the point responce to President Bush's speech. I was glad, for once not to hear the "liberal whine" of the past responses that could be re phrased as politcal fodder for the defeatist posistion. I enjoyed hearing you say that we (the American soldiers especially) the people of this great nation have given alot...blood, money, time, and effort to the Iraqis so that they can choose the kind of government they want. We have removed hiderances they could not have removed without help, taught them, and helped them learn the democatic processes, encouraged them to unify and put away the sectarianism, and embrace thier diversity as an asset to all Iraqi people. For all intent and purpose, our military has performed quickly, and honorably, and has already achieved the military objectives. That is a military victory. Our military is not designed to patrol thier city streets nor is it designed to quell political strife. It is now up to the Iraqis to find a solution on thier own, in thier own way. In fact, to me, they are now in charge of thier own destiny.
Thank you Mr' Durbin again. Just know that there is no way that your words tonight can be "creatively phrased" into a defeatist whine.
Best Regards, and peace.

You are so correct on your point about the liberal whine. Completely non exsistent in Sen. Durbins words. Infact the man impressed me with his call for action and a quick end to the war. As I recall he disagreed with the Presidents accessment of 20,000 troops being enough and thinks it will take more.
I wonder how strongly he believes that and how hard he will fight to increase not only the troop level but the finances to pay for the increase in troops. Far more hawkish than Mr. Kennedy of Mass. who suggested they use their power of the purse to force the President ot return to them for yet another resolution. Is this the new plan of Kennedy and his Hard Left Liberal Base in the Senate, to start a U.N. style resolution process against President Bush? Their desire to rewrite the history of this war and make it mirror that of Vietnam if incredible.
But in Durbin you have a leader. Notice he went against the will of his party by suggesting additional troops would be needed to win this war, to put us in a position to withdraw our troops and leave intact a new govenrment that can lead its people to freedom.
McCain/Durbin on the same page? Does that cement McCain as a Democrat now, or Durbin as a closet Republican?
Either way it was nice to see a spine on a Democrat.
