The true Toll on the American Taxpayer is our own misguided nationalism.
While we focus our attention on symptoms of the ills of the wolrd, we
are bleedijng profusely froma dozen or more more gaping wounds.

J.W. SHELTON aka THE PATRIOT's innacurate post is worthy of a seperate thread. He posted an article that appeared to get some praise from a few. Yet he refused to back it up with fact. This double-speak is the very basis that the Nazis and other fascist regimes use distort the truth in support of the preservation of the regime. While Mr Shelton's oft posted disdain for any party politics is admirable, he is so far immersed in the "bandwagon", he doesn't even realize he is beating thier drums.

Like I said, Mr. So-called Patriot. Back it up. Show me the article regarding the misleading statistics and misinformation that was supposedly printed by the LA Times. Better yet, cite the resources. Had the LA Times posted it, I am sure they would have cited their sources.

I have searched for your article repeatedly and not found it. Its not to say that its not there. Its just to say that a repeated search has only brought up an over-used, under-cited internet spammed email which goes to show that you cannot even formulate an original thought, much less steal one backed up by fact. If it were printed in the LA Times, it was probably to disclaim that it was first published by the LA times. (First attributed back in 2002)Ny guess is some other moron posted it on a blog, citing it as fact, and you simply a$$ummed it was. Put your money where your mouth is. Produce the article. Cite the facts.

I did, however find this: http://www.snopes.com/politics/immigration/taxes.asp.

An excellent essay on how the facts are misleading, misinterpreted, or downright false.

I don't know what the statistics are. Frankly, I don't care. I already know that the economic refugee problem in the U.S. is not NEARLY as big a problem as the so many other problems we have in this country. I already know that the rallying call to blame a class of people for all of our country's problems is not just wrong, illogical, and baseless, but its so disturbngly nationalistic that it strikingly resembles Nazi Germany in the 30's. I already know that in my gut, blaming the brown-skinned from the south for our ills is like blaming Iraq for 9-11.

Misguided. And wrong.

When will we realize that isolationism doesn't work? Its like burying our head in the sand! This is not just an immigration problem. The solution lies NOT in how to blockade ourselves offf from the world and excpect to live independently of that happily ever after. The solution lies in cooperation and working in ways that will assist the developing nations of this hemispehere and in ways to increase and develop their infrastructures, not just force-feed them American-bred poisoned democracy.

And it never ceases to amaze me how many times I hear that other over-used, unoriginal comment you made to me in your post: "Why not you start the process by moving you a$$ to Mexico."  First of all, I wouldn't mind it. I've considered it often. I have travelled to Mexico innumerable times. (Have you? Other than the "border-towns"?) Most Americans have this distorted sense that Mexico is some dirty third-world country filled with criminals and starving babies. Mexico City is the largest city in the world! Being as Mexico is the fourth largest economy in the world, and growing faster than most (the only economy to have a 40-year boom in growth even during world-wide depression) and filled with rich culture, rich resources, and some of the nicest people I have ever, and probably will ever, meet....I wouldn't mind moving there one bit and consider it often.

The bigotry and racism there is one tenth what it is here.

Is this to say that so-called "illegal immigration" isn't a problem? Of course not. But we aren't even asking the right questions. Like I said in my comment to your unoriginal, sheep-following-the-herd post on immigration:

US foriegn policy has ALWAYS come back to bite us in the ass...installing Hussein...installing Osama. Its always been about money. It has never been about what is right. Just about what the rich think is good for them Right Now.

The long term goal/question should be, "How can we assist in the development of Mexico's economy so there is no need for economic refugees to seek asylum?" And if you are a greedy-assed republican, go ahead and tack on to the end of that question: "...and make bundles of money in the process?" The question should NOT be, "How can we build a bigger fence?"

When the hell are we going to realize that alienating and pissing off the rest of the hemisphere, and extreme nationalism will NEVER work.

Has anyone else noticed that white folk and US citzens are a minority in this hemisphere? Have a little compassion and respect. It goes a long way.
