As a fed up voting constituent, I would like to present our “leadership” with a summary of A Primer for Dummys on the Illegal Alien Issue in 3 Easy Steps, just in case there was too much reading required of them:

1. Control the border!
2. Nail the illegal employers' hides to the wall!! Enforce the laws already on the books!!
3. Help the illegal alien population to re-migrate to Mexico by enforcing the laws already on the books!!!
4. Get tough with a Mexican government that is condoning and promoting this invasion.

What’s that you say!?! There are FOUR steps now? Well Mercy Me, so there are!!

Duhhhh!!

PS Dummy "leaders": Check the features of the Mexican Constitution dealing with immigrants if you need an example to follow.

PPS Dummy "leaders": Here is some ammunition for you to shoot back when the Mexican government comes at you with straw man arguments and rights it doesn't have. It really needs to clean its own house before lecturing American and meddling in its affairs. Only in Mexico: Immigrants Treated Harshly.

"My Mody, your ruminations on immigration reflect heavy-duty research and a lot of thought," she said admiringly, "and I thank you for sharing that."

I assume your number 4 doesn't preclude going our own way to frame the solutions to the immigration issue - thereby defining Mexico's role, de facto - while implementing a track two diplomatic effort to get Mexico to do the right thing.

Number 3 is the fatal sticking point, though, isn't it? What's the carrot? What's the stick?

Opening Argument:

Henceforth and forthwith we must deal firmly with the Mexican Government. Vicente Fox is in grievous violation of our national sovereignty with his blatant and unconscionable meddling in our internal affairs. This has to stop immediately if we are to continue having cordial, if not friendly, relations with this third world entity on our southern border!

Pursuant to Article 33, "Foreigners may not in any way participate in the political affairs of the country." This ban applies, among other things, to participation in demonstrations and the expression of opinions in public about domestic politics like those much in evidence in Los Angeles, New York and elsewhere in recent days.

In addition:

Take steps to turn off the gushing spigot of U.S. dollars sent to Mexico by illegal aliens here in our country. That would get Fox Inc.’s attention real fast in view of the fact that it exceeds Mexico’s foreign revenue from any other source, including its oil.

Those are just for starters. The United States surely has to be in the position to leverage third world Mexico into meaningful cooperation on keeping its people at home.

3. Help the illegal alien population to re-migrate to Mexico by enforcing the laws already on the books!!!

Reference step 2, to wit: if the magnet is turned off a large part of the problem will return from whence it came because it is better to be in poverty at home than in an alien environment. I don’t know whether that is a carrot or a stick – depends on how you look at it.

In conjunction with that, perhaps offer a One-Time carrot program that helps volunteer repatriates to Mexico to get home and get re-established. It absolutely has to be One-Time, or it becomes a magnet itself. Step 1 is essential to ensure the success of step 2 and the One-Time carrot program.

To wit: “What would it be worth to lift them out of the fabric and wash them back to Mexico? How about making them an offer they can’t refuse? What about taking some of that hundreds of billions of dollars and setting up a reward-for-voluntary-deportation program? Furthermore, to light a fire under their butts, make the offer good for one month and limit it to the first ten million applicants, with of course believable guarantees if they come forward.”
