Still Insane After All These Years

"Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." I have seen this quote attributed to both Albert Einstein and Benjamin Franklin. No matter its true source, it is very true. It’s time we stand up as a country and say, “STOP, THIS INSANITY!” The President has retired with his “war cabinet” to try to determine a new course in Iraq. This same group got us into the quagmire that is Iraq in the first place. Rumsfeld being gone is only a small start. The rest of these incompetents should be on the street looking for real work.

To look to this group for advice is tantamount to saying we want to stay the course. This will only continue in the needless loss of lives, American and Iraqi. Why did the president bother to have a bi-partisan commission look into Iraq, if only to ignore its recommendations? He should apologize to public servants like Sandra Day O’Connor who came out of retirement to serve on the commission. It has served as only a public relations stunt.

The new Congress faces a vital test of its backbone in January. This is not the time for timid action. It is time to inform Emperor George not only do we know he has no clothes but we know he has no clue. We can no longer permit the insane course of the Iraq War to continue.

I am sure that these quotes are familiar to all of us. There are many, many more. In fact, I can't think of ONE thing that the asses of evil (Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld) said that has proven to be correct.

So yes, PL, it is insanity; the asylum is being run by the inmates. While the great majority of Americans toss and turn at night over the state of our country and the disaster that gets worse daily in Iraq, the president says he sleeps just fine. Of course, sociopaths tend to not have a conscience.

Meanwhile, we approach just another number-3000 dead American soldiers.

Hopefully the new Pentagon Chief Gates will quit in January, telling the press that Bush has his head stuck up his arse. In Bush World, we don't lose until we quit. So are the people who hold Enron Stock still OK, cuz they don't lose until they sell?

I have to ask, what would you have him do? Abdicate and just walk away. He's still the President and he still knows more about what is going on than you do PL. You just swallow what the media tells you is goingon, half the time they don't even have the facts straight. Followers all...

I wonder what the Troops think? If only someone would do a poll......WAIT, the MILITARY TIMES did! And here are the results:

– Only 35 percent said they approve of the way President Bush is handling the war, while 42 percent said they disapproved.

– 50 percent believe success in Iraq is likely, down from 83 percent in 2004.

– 38 percent believe the United States should send more troops to Iraq. 39 percent believe we should maintain current levels or reduce the number of troops, including 13 percent who support complete withdrawal.

– 72 percent believe the military is “stretched too thin to be effective.”

– 47 percent disagree with President Bush’s mantra that the war in Iraq is part of the war against terrorism, while the same percentage agree.

– Only 41 percent of the military said the U.S. should have gone to war in Iraq in the first place, down from 65 percent in 2003. That closely reflects the beliefs of the general population today — 45 percent agreed in a recent USA Today/Gallup poll.

– 52 percent approve of the overall job President Bush is doing, down from 71 percent in 2004.

– 63 percent say the senior military leadership has the best interests of the troops at heart. That number is lower from President Bush (48 percent) and lower still for civilian military leadership (32 percent) and Congress (23 percent).

While there is little doubt about GW's mental stability (he AND his father both have been on psyche drugs), I think the real problem lies less with insanity than it does with deception and evilness. Too many of the advocates for invading and occupying Iraq have profitted too handsomely, both monetarily and in a rage of religious zealotry driven mass murder.

AA says

I would have him follow the advice of his own commission. Not dismiss it out of hand because it disagrees with his preconceived notion of what to do. Have you even bothered to read the commission’s report, AA? Your Britney Spears attitude of he is the president so he must know what he is doing is naïve at best, blind ignorance at worst. Those of you that see the mainstream articles about the “war cabinet” and swallow it uncritically sink us deeper into this quagmire.

I would have him stop the abdication of responsibility and admit that we are in a no win situation. This talk about winning is absurd and should not be tolerated by thinking people. We cannot win a civil war where there is no clear-cut “good guy.” Both sides have Islamic extremists. Both are trying to kill as many Americans as possible. We are the invaders and occupiers; we need to get the Hell out now.

To be called a follower by AA, the habitual Kool Aid drinker and last person to open his eyes to reality (if ever), is rich. Bush knows more than PL? Not by his track record. There is a big difference between being privy to information and actually using it. That pig headed, tragically arrogant, emotionally stunted, organically brain impaired and intellectually lazy luddite bastard is by any definition a MORON. Actions speak louder than words, and look where his actions have put us know.

When I started speaking out publically against Bush in 2002, I was asked to take my Godless, American-hating, French-loving, disrespectful, liberal-ass views to another country, and leave America to real Patriots who aren't afraid to do what needs to be done. Although the rhetoric has been softened slightly by large helpings of humble pie, people like AA are still saying pretty much the same thing. I propose likewise for the new minority. The Britney Spears can flash their cooch all they want in their very own far away country (make sure to send us pictures though), and take their beloved Dubya with them. To steal from a 2004 election cartoon, they can call their country Dumbf***istan.

Tom, I'm not ready to throw out our political system yet. We are only seven years away from a government that was at least recognizable to our Constitutional roots. With some diligence, we can repair the damage. True, Democrats have been riding the Facism Express along with the Republican conductors, but what has changed after the midterms is crucial. Up to now, House and Senate rules have prevented Democrats from doing anything but having unofficial meetings in the basement, getting a ten second whine on CNN, or being ridiculed on Fox News. Suddenly they have the Ring of Power. They now set the agenda, they propose and block legislation, they decide which committees to form and who to head them, they have subpoena power, they have the flashlight and decide where to point it. I wrote an article just before the midterms arguing that the new Democratic majority's ability to enact new legislation is inherently limited so long as Bush can exercise the power of an non-overridable veto. But the two critical things they can and must do is to block bad legislation and perform oversight. This makes all the difference in the world, and as Hunter well knows, I've got dinner riding on the Dems making effective use of the power they have not held for so long. We'll see how well they do it starting next week.
