Wednesday, Saddam Hussein interrupted his court proceedings with claims that American forces tortured him and his co-defendants while in American custody. This outburst occurred after the testimony of victims of torture under Hussein's regime.

According to Christopher Reid, a spokesman for the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, the defendants are being treated well and "living in conditions as good as the soldiers who are guarding them."

Washington officials have also dismissed Hussein's accusations. Sean McCormack, spokesman for the U.S. State Department, in response to Hussein's allegations said, "Where the focus should be is on the testimony of those people who were victimized by the tyranny, the oppression and the violence of Saddam Hussein."

Hussein and his associates remain on trial for crimes against humanity.
