Republicans are tirelessly trying to set the Democrats up as a straw man that they can knock down. As a born and raised Republican, Goldwater campaigner, and Reagan supporter, I’m ashamed of this behavior. This is not the Republican Party of old. It is not the Republican Party of responsibility and stewardship of our treasured American Values. It is a new movement heady with power that submerges and suffocates dissent, to the great discredit of the Republican Party itself and to the detriment of our Constitutional Republic.
Why are Republicans accusing Democrats of not having a plan?
o Aren’t the Republicans completely in charge of our government?
o Haven’t they been in charge without opposition for 5 long years?
o Have they not stonewalled the Democrats at every turn, right down to the meanest detail?
Remember the committee meeting lorded over by Representative James Sensenbrenner (R-WI), in which Democrats and their witnesses were effectively muzzled? This was followed shortly thereafter by Democratic Representative John Conyers’ hearing on the Downing Street Minutes, relegated to a basement broom closet and distracted by an unusually large number of floor votes. And this kind of small behavior not befitting our leadership goes on unabated!
After five long years of Republican dictatorship and aggressive belittling of any opposition as “unpatriotic” and broadside accusations of not supporting the troops, no matter what the issue, Republicans own the responsibility for a plan. Republicans cannot now get off the hook of responsibility granted them by We the People! Blaming others ala George W. Bush may be in vogue among Republicans, but it is not a pretty picture.
Whether the Republicans like it or not, their “plan” is on trial in November. They can no longer hide in front of our troops. They cannot hide behind a straw man.
Republicans have had whiff of absolute power and been found wanting. The party needs a good purging and a return to Conservative values! And We the People need to assist it by restoring the essential Checks and Balances so sorely lacking.
But what do I know? I’m just an ex-Republican.

| Hey, BAA, just admit it, you don't understand enough about politics to deal with reality. No need to examine hypotheticals, the GOP knows they're in trouble so the Republican leadership hath decreed that the House of Representatives will convene for 97 days in 2006. “This is an election year and people want to see more of their constituents,” says House Majority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio. [link:www.usatoday.com] At $162,000 per, is this value for taxpayer money? Is there so little business that the House can afford to meet 11 fewer days that the 1948 House did? The one Harry Truman called the "do-nothing" Congress? What's wrong with this picture BAA Boy? |

| Hey hey Double A. What if games, huh? What if the Republicans stay in office with the same majority? I don’t know about the others, but I will keep on keepin’ on. Republicans are real people and can sometimes be influenced by an active constituency to turn from the Dark Side on some issues. What if the Republicans lose strength in Congress but keep control? I don’t know about the others, but I will keep on keepin’ on with extreme prejudice. Republicans are real politicians and can be influenced more effectively after they have been duly chastened at the polls. What if the Republicans actually pick up seats? I don’t know about the others, but I will keep on keepin’ on and do what I can to help our nation survive in the face of electoral insanity. I might even become a registered Republican and go at it from the inside. After 2002 and 2004 I took refuge in the hope that the thin red line of moderate Republicans, Americans who have the best interest of our nation at heart, would stand with their counterparts on the other side of the aisle. Some of them now seem ripe for revolt against the unbelievable arrogance emanating from the Imperial Oval Orifice. There are signs that this Disaster in the White House is popping Republicans like zits on the body politic, arrogantly dismissing Congress as an unnecessary evil. And he is finally getting stuff all over him. That’s not going to come off. The Lame Disaster in the White House may avoid impeachment with a continuing Republican majority, but the zits are going to fester. But I don’t think the Republicans are going to come out ahead of the game or even even-with-the-board this time, although they may maintain control as the Democrats do the Texas two-step to the tune of their own six-shooters. But maybe not enough control to scotch impeachment proceedings with the help of the festering zits. Here’s back at you, Double A. How do you feel about that Arrogant Imperial Condescending Disaster in the White House? Is he a Republican? Is he a Conservative? Is he ordained form on high to steer us into the Apocalypse? |
