It is today the fourth of March in the year 2008 that Bret Favre has announced his retirement from American Football, the Green Bay Packers, and from the National Football League. It appears that an era has closed with greats such as Joe Montana, Dan Marino, and Brett Favre leaving the NFL Scene while a new generation of players appears to be taking over. It cannot be denied that Bret Favre was synonymous with the Green Bay Packers. Bret Favre had a career of one Super Bowl title, three MVPs, 61,665 career yards, 442 career touchdowns, and seventeen seasons. I think that the Green Bay Packers without Bret Favre will not be the same. Bret Favre was the energy that gave the Green Bay Packers the extra push during the NFL Season.
I am reading the comments of Mr. John Chadiha of ESPN.com in which he thinks that Brett Favre will "regret his retirement". I cannot determine the reasons why Brett Favre retired. The reasons are many that we would need to bring before the discussion table. I could think of is that maybe it is better to retire than to be fired. In the world of American Football as in most sports, a person is worth when the team is winning. When a team loses, almost the whole team is fired. We have to look at what happened with the Miami Dolphins. Even then, Zack Thomas was able to come out good from what has happened in Miami Florida.
Another reason could be the pull of family, friends, and home. When the day has ended and the glory is long past, the people and places that actually count are the family, friends, and home. There has been talk about health issues. Brett Favre still has good health but what would happen if he were to be injured in a game. While injuries are a part of any sports, injuries are worst for those as they advance in age. It takes time for a leg or an arm to heal in an older more experienced player than for someone who is beginning in the NFL. For those who say that the NFL Players are "rich in money", all of the money can disappear in one second with medical bills that reach the stratosphere. In America, even NFL or any sports players can go from extremely rich to below the poverty level.
While I am a Miami Dolphin fan and recognize that Bret Favre was a formidable opponent, he will be missed by those who love American Football including myself. I would like to wish the best to Brett Favre and his family in the retirement years. I also want to wish the best to the Green Bay Packers.

And as for why he said he left, the mental drain of another season, think about this. For 15 years, he's been out front, the face of the Packers, the Man in Green Bay, WI. He's been through more press conferences than Geo Bush, and dealt with more changes in coaches and players, and club house guys, and front office personnel then anyone else in the game. He's getting too old to deal with the bulls***. The NFL is a young man's game. Let Aaron Rodgers do it for a year. Then Favre will really look like a Pro Bowler.
