Our Press Sucks

The NYTimes, Washington Post, Washington Times, Wall Street Journal, USA Today, both the local Az Republic and Review Journal here in Nevada, they all suck. Not one of these papers is worthy of our respect based on the crap they turn out. In fact you could compare them all to People Magazine at the end of the day for all the real insight they hand out especially about the so called mortgage crisis.
These upstanding papers report day after day that nothing has been done by the rush in action congress who should be coming up with a plan I agree, but why must it happen in a week, three days, or even today. This is kind of a big issue, maybe they should take a little more time than they did developing this collapse, but the papers want to drive home the nothingness that is our US congress at times. Well the fact that legislation does not run through our nations capital like s*** through a goose is not news.
We all know this. Its as stupid as making a story as People did last week over the fact that Clay Akin came out of the closet... Well f***ing Duh... Did anyone else think that closet was empty but for him? Captain Obvious strikes again.
I want more out of papers. I want something I can't see on TV or hear on the radio. I want the nuts and volts to the stories, not just the outcomes of them. Report to me those events daily as they happen, but you can refrain from the "Chicken Little" worst case scenarios that you love to publish that never turn out to be as bad as you wanted them to be.
I once read somewhere that American News Print is written at a 3rd grade reading level.
I have a problem with that. Not only is the writing at a 3rd grade level, it appears the subject matter most days is also. Give us some credit for making it this far in life. Most of us can handle reading at an 8th grade level at least, like where the papers used to write.
It was at about the same time as the Great Society was unleashed upon our nation that the papers started lowering their standards, and with them the people started lowering theirs.
Another problem with our society... Stop waiting for someone else to clean up your mess and do it yourself. From people still living without anything in New Orleans to idiots who over borrowed on your homes, you did this to yourself.
We are the greatest country one earth; START ACTING LIKE IT!
But what would I know; I'm just an Average American.

| This article...the nuts and volts of it.......sounds suspiously like something Sister Sarah said recently: As we send our young men and women overseas in a war zone to fight for democracy and freedoms, including freedom of the press, we've really got to have a mutually beneficial relationship here with those fighting the freedom of the press, and then the press, though not taking advantage and exploiting a situation, perhaps they would want to capture and abuse the privilege. We just want truth, we want fairness, we want balance. And doggone it, no hard or follow up questions. Those are darned irritatin' I don't know if this is a nut or a volt, but the bottom line here is that the Republicans are seeing their tight grip on the media fade. The media of the early 2000's with their uncritical reporting of WMD's in Iraq, and mushroom clouds and Bush propaganda has started to wise up. And AA and his righties DON'T LIKE IT ONE BIT. |

| I didn't write a thing about any particular stance left or right in this, just of my disappointment with the press reporting the obvious. You guys read way too much into this. Again proving my point about it being the author not the article that gets your combined panties in a wad. |

Some of us have been screaming about the sorry state of our press for a long time now. Randi Rhodes has said for years "They have cancelled the news!" I find it curious that it is NOW that you are doing the same. And this completely non partisan statement was, what, a throw in? It was at about the same time as the Great Society was unleashed upon our nation that the papers started lowering their standards, and with them the people started lowering theirs. |

| Average Unlike the dolts who attack you I appreciate your observations about the dumbing down of America. The comments received so far are evidence enough. JuneBug and Indie are incapable of putting their partisanship aside to discuss anything. As with most of the so called progressives on this site all they do is look at the author and go into attack mode. Coincidentally JuneSmugs response highlighting the talented Al Franken's insurmountable lead in Minnesota becomes the perfect illustration of press bias. Now I know nothing about the Minnesota Star Tribune but even an idiot can see that if one paper gives the foul mouthed tax dodging failed radio host embezzeler of money from the Boys & Girls Clubs of New York a lead over the incumbent Senator and the other polls show Coleman in the lead perhaps there's an idiolgical slant to that paper.
Regarding the Great Society if it proves nothing else it proves that throwing massive amounts of money at programs like Medicare, Medicaid and public education is a waste of money. Just what does Government succesfully do? Hows that war on poverty working out? Five stars for you AA and don't be such a stranger.

| Well of course the press sux. Lets see, the righties have spent 30 years, and millions of dollars buying up every media outlet, from New York to Melbourne, they've built book publishing houses, and radio and teevee infotainment networks, and now you realize that they are only reporting the crap the Bushies want you to read? You should be glad they write to a 3rd grade level. If you didn't realize that the warm liquid pouring down your back wasn't Magical free market Unicorn tears, then well, you are an idiot. Here is the big clue, for you. I won't even charge ya. If
Economics is both hard, and technical. It requires smart, rarional, logical people to "get it". Newspapers and teevee require cute people, who read well, and come off as "serious" yet with a sexy gleam in their eye. Yeah BAA Boy - and have you seen the report in the Minneapolis-St Paul Star Tribune that Al Franken has pulled solidly ahead of incumbent Senator Norm Coleman for the first time?! Of course, Republican Coleman says Minnesotans should ignore the Star tribune poll!
Darn it, if nothing else, you guys are creative! You betcha! Wink Wink
