I am totally confused about the United States not being able to capture Osama bin Laden! Doesn't the United States have the most military resources of any country on the planet?
Osama showed up again on the anniversary of 9/11 on video tape again. Supposedly, he is taking refuge in the mountains of Pakistan. He is supposed to be the target of all of the efforts in the "Battle on Terror", but yet he has not been caught.
Our military has some of the highest trained military specialists that could meld into any society and get whoever they want. I have met a few of these people and the skill set that they possess is beyond our wildest imagination! They have the ability to kill anyone, anywhere, and at anytime! Why hasn't it happened yet?
Now I know the politics are in play and that we the U.S. government is trying to diplomatically work with countries in the region to capture him, but like I said, it has not happened yet!
I guess the real question that keeps popping up in my head is why is the U.S. government trying to keep him alive? Is it a front to keep the pressure up in the region to keep wars going? With him gone, there would be absolutely no reason for the U.S. military to be there. Is it for the poppy production in the region, that has turned into a bumper crop, that is generating more money then we can imagine? It is money that the CIA probably uses for its covert operations.
I would like to know why you think he has not been captured. It is a situation that baffles me to no end. If the U.S. government is trying to not capture him, why are the U.S. citizens putting up with this?

| They don't want to catch him. How could they keep preaching their doctrine of fear if they nabbed the worlds number 2 terrorist?

| I'm one of those naive people who think that OBL actually exists (or did exist), and in large part orchestrated an attack against us on 9-11. But to answer your question, I'll refer to 1984 and the use of Emmanual Goldstein as a focus of the daily Two-Minute Hate. If OBL didn't exist, he would most certainly have to be invented by the Bush Administration in order to advance their agenda. You don't sacrifice your best asset.

| Free Thinker, if you're serious about answering your first question, read Jawbreaker, Gary Berntsen's account of having bin Laden in the crosshairs just prior to the US invasion of Iraq. The lack of interest in trcking him to the ends of the earth, dead or alive and all that baffles all of us and we can only speculate. Jawbreaker tells how Berntsen was called off - not why! Your last question - If the U.S. government is trying to not capture him, why are the U.S. citizens putting up with this? - is the one that's REALLY difficult to answer. Perhaps it's simply apathy. Keep inquiring, Buddy! |

| June, Good article! The one from NPR went to a dead page. I had heard about Special Forces sort of being handcuffed over all of this. I am going to check out the book. I am just amazed that more people are not asking this same question! Like you say June, apathy is the problem. If the people only knew how much it was costing each one of them, maybe then they would wake up. |

| June, Thanks for the article! It shows that the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing! It also amplifies the question of why the government didn't want to pull the trigger. There simply has to be a political reason. It sure can't be from the lack of effort on the part of the military. |

| Bush wouldn't let Osama Bush Laden get harmed. OBL could camp out in the Rose Garden and Bush and Cheney would bring him milk and cookies. So long as OBL is out there, the Commander Guy thinks he can turn our nation into a no free speech zone, repeal habeas corpus and destroy our freedoms. And the dirty stupid chimp is right.
