There are so many underlying similarities between America today and Rome at the time of Christ two thousand years ago. Is this the Rome that some say is prophesied to rise again?
- Unchallenged military power
- Management of resources through puppet rulers
- Aggression and garrisoning throughout the known world
- Culture-changing commercial influence throughout the known world
- Inexorable movement from a representative republic to a concentration of power
- A growing tide of barbarians flooding across its southern border threatening to overwhelm it.
These are the main characteristics that today’s America have in common with the Roman Republic in its transition to an Imperial Rome.
And a Machiavellian cynical agenda seems to be supporting that historically and currently.
If you see this too, you might find 9/11, American Empire, and Christian Faith an interesting read.

To start out, mercenaries were found in the enlisted ranks only. The legion was still under the control of Roman officers with allegiance to Rome. But as time went on, the officer’s ranks were taken over by mercenaries as well. They of course gave allegiance to the pursuit of wealth (Merchant, mercantile, mercenary - all derived from the same root, which stands for business and commerce).
This process figured prominently in the downfall of the Roman Empire, which rested on the iron arm of its legions. When Rome could no longer trust that allegiance, Rome itself became captive to its whims.
