President Bush enters yet another phase in his out of body experience, and shows no signs of reentry. When you’ve spent so much time in a dream world, opening the door when reality comes knocking isn’t easy. Sadly, many patriotic Americans were persuaded and voted, not once, but twice to join this virtual-orbiting President. Some have returned, and more are contemplating coming back. Speaking of disembarking, the Baker/Hamilton Iraq Study Group (ISG) report provides another opportunity to get off. Make no mistake, the ISG’s report is a calculated attempt by daddy Bush, and his band of brothers, to rescue his boy, and put him back in his own body; in other words shock him back to reality. It states unequivocally the President’s Iraq strategy was, and is based on failed policy. ISG members unanimously agreed on 79 recommendations suggesting an extreme makeover, if we are to prevent putting the whole Middle East at risk. The out of body President says, the ISG report shows a bipartisan spirit can provide a way forward. Reality says the President thinks he alone knows the best way forward. The out of body President says middle east democracy represents a defeat for radicals and extremist. Reality says democracy, by way of free elections gave a radical organization, Hezbollah, a voice in the Government of Lebanon, and it was democratic elections that gave Mugtada Sadr’s extremists 30 seats in the new Iraqi Government. The ISG says reality demands a surge in diplomatic action going forward, the out of body President says escalation going forward. Earth to Mr. President - There’s a new decider in town, it’s the 110th Congress, and it’s first, and most formidable challenge is putting you back in your own body. Whether by stringent oversight, or stronger congressional actions, dictated by committee hearings will provide the impetus, no one knows. One thing is definite; America can’t survive as a Nation, when the Commander and Chief is out of touch, out of control, and out of body. Mr. President, put on your political heat shield, and prepare for reentry - You are coming back.
