I wrote this in regards to Arizona’s Quarter Designs and sent it to the Navajo Times. They printed it and sent me a complimentary copy. I prefaced it with: Regarding Arizona’s Quarter designs let us consider something besides a pretty face.
If the Code talkers would have been put on the quarter would it be meaningful? What about the other tribes? What do you think?
Navajo Code Talkers
Born to America and for the Navajo on their reservation
In Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah living as one great nation
In World War 2 an idea came about that would be the Navajos calling
Coded messages to confuse the enemy help keep America from falling
In Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima, other battles to name a few
The Navajo volunteers kept ahead of what the enemy would do
The enemy couldn’t decode the words from our side that were spoken
Saving countless American lives with the code that couldn’t be broken
Some of the battles that were fought if it weren’t for these great men
May have had a different outcome for America if we didn’t win
Their contributions will be remembered forever with pride for all to see
“The Warriors- The Navajo Code Talkers”- with gratitude from you and me
Lasting glory is for all these men that accomplished such great things
America still reigns supreme for all and the Eagle still has its wings
If you talk about some real Americans in the truest sense of the word
It’s Navajo Code Talkers who have blessed NE-HE-MAH with their births
