Watching March Madness is like watching a movie for a month without having any idea what’s about to happen. Heads or tails, we win.
This NCAA men’s college basketball season is like watching the red carpet before the Academy Awards. The real action is about to start. A-Lister’s like North Carolina, Kansas, UCLA and Duke have confidently flashed million dollar smiles all season long as we’ve watched them strut their stuff towards the Big Dance. Flashy newcomers like Tennessee, Drake and Butler have crashed the party and are eagerly vying for a chance to shine on the biggest stage of all.
There are 65 nominations handed out for this golden statue, which team will bring home the hardware in 2008?
Two freshman point guards bedazzled us all season with terrific individual performances while elevating their teams into contention for the ultimate prize. Can Derrick Rose lead perennial contenders the Memphis Tigers to the Final Four for the first time under legendary coach John Calipari? Will Indiana’s Eric Gordon overcome the mid-season loss of head coach Kelvin Sampson and direct a talented Hoosier’s cast to victory?
Neither guard will come home with the trophy if the giants down low continue to dominate the paint like John Goodman at a post-show buffet.
Tyler Hansbrough’s No. 50 jersey has joined the rarefied air of Jordan and Worthy in the Dean Smith Center rafters. Can he get a national championship ring to match? Michael Beasely has put up better numbers than 2007 Player of the Year Kevin Durant. Will the ferocious freshmen put his Kansas State teammates on his back and carry them to San Antonio? UCLA freshmen center Kevin Love chose the Bruins because of their tradition. Can he add to their NCAA record 11 national championships?
Will there be a sequel to the magical Final Four Cinderella story of George Mason in 2006?
I need to calm down. I’m getting more excited about this tournament than Ryan Seacrest waiting to interview George Clooney.
Don’t blink this year because many of the players with starring roles won’t be here next year. The mandatory one-year enrollment period, implemented by the NBA and NCAA in 2006, is the best thing to happen to college basketball since the Fab Five. Every year impact freshmen set their sites on collegiate glory. This year’s superstar class will play a major role in the climatic ending.
Pre-order the six-foot party sub and stock the refrigerator now. Bust out the old college T-shirt and put the pizza guy on speed dial. This is better than going the movies, here you can leave your cell phone on and loud, obnoxious behavior is encouraged. Find that spot on the sofa or pull up a bar stool, the show’s about to start.
March Madness is Like Night at the Movies

| I'm watching as if I were somehow qualified to understand the mix, Yeah Right! Hoping that KU ends up playing UCLA and taking the championship. Thinking the most fun will be this Tuesday (3/18) though, with the NIT games. Watch for UNC Asheville's 7 foot 7 inch Center Kenny George in action. The bohemeth is certainly worth watching as he stands and dunks without jumping.

Love hit that turnaround-fade-away jumper to win to win the game!? This kid's gonna be a player in the league, I don't care if he doesn't have hops. MSU is making a run folks, they're gonna teach Calipari's And-! crew how ball is played in the BigTen! |
