I know it may be a little too late this year for this but I believe this is important and has much meaning to it. There is a petition out there to restore the traditional observance of Memorial Day instead of creating a 3-day weekend for people to celebrate "Memorial Day Weekend Sales" and BBQs. Sure I enjoy the two as much as anyone else but this holiday should be more than that.
The only reason I can see behind observing Memorial Day on the monday clostest to the 30th of May is to make a 3-day weekend and that is ridiculous (in my opinion). Anyway, I don't usually post articles here but when I saw this - I thought it was important enough to mention and perhaps get a few more signatures. Maybe even have it passed on from here.
If you're interested and agree please go sign the petition.

| Right, and thats why we should observe this holiday instead of celebrating it and taking advantage of it in order to get a 3-day weekend. And I don't want to get in a debate with you over the war William... it just doesn't seem right and I don't feel like sitting here for a few hours decrypting your rebuttals. |

| I think this issue is of more importance to me than the bid for office of one William Crum. The meaning of our holidays has been bastardized in our overly commercial society; and like our dismal understanding of history, we have lost sight of the lessons that our ancestors fought and died to teach us. Pinball is absolutely right to get involved, and shouldn't have to be chastised by anyone for having his say - especially you William. Go hold your breath in the corner, or punch a wall, or make idle threats. I will defend your right to post here any day of the week. I will attack your decision to spam here just as fiercely.

| I have earn the right wwhen the government sent me to Vietnam-another war that we need not have gone. I am guarantee by the Constitution of the United States of America this right. Just because a few member who attempt to push their views on everybody else can't take critizism;that's too bad. If you don't like what I say, agree to disagree and leave it at that. The possible of doing that is probaly too hard for you:get thicker skin.

| William, you are clueless and totally miss the point. You have just as much right as anyone else to post here. Yet when people ask you to take the time to compose your thoughts and use proper English so that we can understand you, you tell us you don't have the time (you're thinking too fast). When we ask you to demonstrate courtesy in how you post here, you snap back. When we tell you that someone who disregards the reasonable requests of people in a public forum has no business running for public office, you react with immaturity. The best thing to do at this point is not to take us all on. You sought free publicity for your run for Congress. You now have the worst publicity that money can buy. You wanted to convince us that you are the right man for the job - my guess is that not one person here buys it. Lay low William. Contribute when you have a relevent comment. Post an article when you have something that needs to be said. Have fun here . . . it's your sandbox too. Just don't hog all the sand or throw it in our face, or you are going to start a playground fight that you just cannot win. |

| Thanks for raising the issue, Pinball. However, it's about more than just another three day weekend of mattress sales, it's about a national mindset that enables a President to justify his mismanagement of a war while laying yet another wreath on the the Tomb of the Unknowns. It's about a national mindset that permits the President to conceal the results of has mismanagement from the electorate and blame his tanking popularity on the war news that does seep through. It's about a mindset that rejects William's thoughts about his service in Nam meant while permitting chickenhawk politicians to advocate military rather than peaceful, diplomatic solutions. Petitions are fine, Pinball, but wouldn't you agree that the solution is really within each of us? Putting Memorial back in Memorial Day is like putting Christ back in Christmas. Like charity and incest, it begins at home! |

| Let make this simple for all you simple minded people. I should have not gone to Vietnam, just like the troups dying in Iraq and Afganistan: should not be there. You never change a Nation policy so take upon yourself when you want to celebrate the giving of ones life for your country. God Bless American and everywhere else. Many of my relatives die for this country and celebrate them on the 30th. End of story.
