A real Patriot speaks out against staying the course to oblivion
As a marine veteran with two Purple Hearts, the Bronze Star with Combat “V” and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, Representative John Murtha should be respected.
As a long-time spokesman for and friend of military commanders, enlisted personnel and their friends, and someone who visits our wounded soldiers on a weekly basis, he should be given the benefit of any doubt.
As a long-time member of congress and the Ranking Minority Member on the Subcommittee for Defense, and an advisor to presidents of both parties, he should be listened to carefully when he speaks out on military matters.
He has spoken out on the intractable Iraq mess, and the following excerpts from his statement are the essence of his stand:
"My plan calls:
• To immediately redeploy U.S. troops consistent with the safety of U.S. forces.
• To create a quick reaction force in the region.
• To create an over-the-horizon presence of Marines.
• To diplomatically pursue security and stability in Iraq."This war needs to be personalized. As I said before, I have visited with the severely wounded of this war. They are suffering.
"Because we in Congress are charged with sending our sons and daughters into battle, it is our responsibility, our obligation, to speak out for them. That's why I am speaking out.
"Our military has done everything that has been asked of them, the U.S. can not accomplish anything further in Iraq militarily. It is time to bring them home."
This bankrupt Bush regime has reacted predictably by releasing its mad dogs on the messenger rather than addressing the issue. Duck, Representative Murtha - here come the “Viet Vets for Truth” sludge barge to smear your reputation.

Digg It!

I agree that Murtha has a stunning record, but in this time of crisis what the enemy needs to see is a united front, not a splintering America. You continue to compare Iraq to Vietnam, well keep saying something long enough and people might believe it, even though this is nothing like it. In Vietnam out politiians and military had no stomach to win, here we do.
I understand your standing by your man, just as I stand by my President, what I don't understand is how your man can say what he has said in the days of 24 hour news coverage beamed to every cave in the world.
I think it is somewhat irresponcible on his part. And yes, I would say it to his face.
If only the terrorist saw us as the Nazi's and Emerial Japan did, they would look at history and cut and run. Instead they see us through a much shorter histoical record, Vietnam, Somalia and other short lived and poorly lead military actions, where we did the cutting adn running.
Maybe, when this is all over in a year or two, Murtha will appologize to the President, maybe not. One thing is to be known for sure, the terrorist will no longer be around to learn from history, instead they will take their part as a dead end of it.
It's time to stand together and let them see us as one.
