I seem to remember something about:

• Port security;
• Border security;
• A mission to Mars;
• Social security repair;
• New relations with Mexico;
• Tax cuts for the rich create jobs;
• Iraqi flowers in the streets for our troops;
• 2000 hours of volunteer work by each American;
• Overwhelming world support for America following 9/11;
• A replacement for the Kyoto treaty based on “good science” by December 02;

*** That was said when the media spotlight was on N'Awlins. Now that its over, as far as the media is concerned, those promises are null and void.

In fact, once an election passes, or an event falls off the media's radar, any Bush promises become voided. Its called ingetri-tagrezing, and that means Bush means what he says, but only for that moment, and then when its time to deliver, well then he don't mean it. The buck don't stop with George.

You don't here New York whinning since 9/11 or California after a big quake or Florida after how many more hurricanes? At some point they have to take responsibility for themselves. Al these other places have moved on and fixed their towns with what they had.

WMD in Syria? Why aren't we attacking them? Is Bush afraid? Is he weak on national security? Is he a flip-flopper?

Ran out of anthrax. Good one! Guess if those damned serials killers that were just caught has just run of of ammunition, the cops wouldn't have had to waste so much time and energy looking for them.

North Korea-China's problem. Really, I haven't heard that China was number 1 on the NK hit list. I am relieved!

Mission was accomplished? Geez, sounds like a guy with premature ejaculation to me.

OBL-Lets just stop fighting all the terrorists. After all, everybody is terminal.

Iraqi oil paying for the recon. Wolfowiz said it. He was the Undersecretary of Defense and a major player in the war. If Bush didn't agree, he should have said otherwise. The American people deserved to know before the war started.

I think the oil prices are just where Bush and Cheney want them. Record profits quarter after quarter.

As far as your last paragraph, that is so far off base that I am not even going to waste time commenting on it.

Yeah, come to think of it, the liberal press has always been editing Bush's statement for brevity, and taking things out of context. Classic example: "You can run, but you can't hide . . . from the scourge of end stage renal disease." Another example: "Wanted dead or alive, or on chronic hemodialysis."

Now what crazy thing has Rush been telling you? Please elaborate on this. Social Security is "on budget" in that it is a federal program in which taxes received and outlays dispersed are administered by the U.S. Treasury. Social Security is "off budget" in that its finances are displayed separately from the rest of budget. The CBO graph of Yearly US Budget Deficit or Surplus - it doesn't include the SS Trust Fund.

The huge surplus under Clinton as shown quite vividly in the CBO graph has nothing to do with the Social Security Trust Fund. Likewise, huge dificit accumulated during the Dubya years cannot be blamed on an ailing SS (which by the way, still has plenty of money in the Trust, because the projected shortfall is not for decades hence). In fact, Bush would love to borrow against this Trust money, because to him it's just a file cabinet full of IOUs.

Now I'll tell you what's not included on the CBO graph, and I will admit that the ommission of this big ticket item is misleading and criminal: that would be the cost of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. So yes, the huge deficit under Bush is in fact a lie, and we know it. It's much LARGER.

If I told you that you were goin gto die of Cancer but it was decades off, would you not change a thing about your lifestyle to try to prevent it. This is the dumbest reason for not doing something about a system that is unsustainable I have ever heard...

What are we talking about AA, the looming Social Security shortfall in 30-40 years, or the assertion that Clinton's surplus budgets were due to "SS dollars in play"? Because I thought you were going to explain to me why the Clinton budget surplus was a lie.

But since you call into question my medical judgment, let me elaborate on how I treat the patient with a slow growing cancer. I treat all the other things that will kill the patient first. If the SS shortfall is the cancer, the near bankruptcy of Medicare is the hemorrhaging gunshot wound. It's called triage. I'm not ignoring the SS problem AA. I merely believe that we should be taking care of the ABCs (airway, breathing, circulation) of the critically injured patient before worrying about the tumor.

Of course the analogy breaks down right away, doesn't it. Because Bush's choice for treating the cancer is to cut out the heart. If we do nothing, SS may or may not be able to pay full benefits in 40 years (that's clearly different from insolvency BTW). But Bush's plan changes the shortfall date to the day after his plan goes into effect. Sort of like treating the cancer with a lethal dose of chemotherapy or radiation therapy. The cancer is gone, and so is the patient. So let us stop pretending that Bush is out to save Social Security: he came to bury Social Security, not to praise it.

Bushies fix kills SS faster than doing nothing. So if you want to save SS, then where to start is median wages, and the number of workers in the system. Raise both now, and keep them rising, and all the SS troubles go away, 100%. But, Medicare is a freight train w/o brakes, going 80 mph into town...
