With the economic climate in the United States and Arizona slowing down you need to find ways to improve your chances of standing out from other applicants to a job.  Phoenix has many opportunities and cultural demographics.  This is a blessing and a burden for many.  There are lots of opportunities for those who can communicate with people who speak Spanish and those who speak English.

For English speakers you can learn Spanish in order to improve make yourself more competitive and desirable to employers.  Although for English speakers there is not as much emphasis on these skills it can definitely give you an advantage.  However, for non English speaking people seeking employment you have to set yourself apart from the others who also speak Spanish or another language.  By learning English or improving your conversational skills so that you are more proficient makes you much more desirable to employers. 

There are lots of ways that you can learn a foreign language.

1.  You can teach yourself.  This method is the most affordable but can take a lot more time and may not always be accurate depending on the student.
2.  Ask a Friend to help.  Most of us know someone that speaks Spanish or English.   Ask them if they will casually help you improve by speaking with you and correcting you.  Maybe pay for their lunch every once in a while and have a conversation hour.
3.  Take lessons.  One place that you can learn Spanish or English for adults and kids is Le Tutor Language School in Tempe.  Lessons are available for all ages and experience levels.  Private lessons are available and group classes will be available in a few months according to their website.
