What is a hate crime?

This is the questions I asked the of a politician as I had their ear the other day. The answer I got was interesting. I was told in no uncertain terms that hate crimes are any crime where the hatred of the victim was the motivating factor for the crime.

So I moved a step beyond that question and said, "So why do we have hate crime legislation?"

I was answered with the dumbest look I have ever seen. "I just told you, to protect people from hate crimes", the politician answered.

I looked directly into the politician eyes and told them that this was stupid. All crime is hate related. Either hatred of what you have, who you are, what you look like or some other vapor like reasoning but always grounded in hatred. This legislation was politics playing politics.

What brought this conversation up was the recent "DUKE" case. Some Duke University students are accused of raping an "exotic dancer" (stripper) during a party that she was hired to "perform" (strip) at. The "exotic dancer" (stripper) is black and the students are white. This is already being touted as a hate crime. A professor from the woman's school where she is a student is going to be watching this case for the NAACP. Only one problem with the case, there is as of yet, not a single shred of evidence suggesting that the woman was raped. No DNA, no eye witnesses, even the bruises on the woman have now been identified as having been there when she showed up at the party through time stamped photos from phone cameras, not one but two.

But even with this complete lack of evidence the prosecutor, who happens to be up for reelection in the county, is moving forward with the case against at least two of the accused. One of these kids has a solid air tight alibi from a taxi driver who has told prosecutors and defence lawyers that he dropped this kid off after the time of the alleged rape.

But now there is a chance to stir the hate crime angle of this up. White students raping a black stripper, oh that's good T.V.. Again we see that the seriousness of the charge is more important than the evidence in this case. In addition, we get to look at this from another angle, the black stripper goes to school at a less expensive school and the boys go to Duke, a notoriously expensive school. This is where hatred of the poor can be insinuated as well as hatred of blacks. Add to that the woman is a stripper and the boys play lacrosse, an obviously upper crust white game (regardless of the fact there is a black kid on the team) while stripping is looked down upon so we can now have the elite vs. the lower class angle.

Hate crime= (White on black) (Rich on poor) (Elite in lower class). yep that's a 21st century hate crime alright.

But what if it was a (Black on black) (rich on poor) (elite on lower class) situation. Still a hate crime? No, that's a shameful act of black on black crime. The "white" thing is what makes this a hate crime. When the Menendez brothers killed their parents, it was because the hated them. When O.J. killed Nicole it was because he hated her and when Senator McKinney slapped a cop in Washington it was because she hated being delayed. These were all hate crimes, but no white people were alleged to be the perps.

If a fight would have broke out during the recent "protest" marches against stopping illegal immigration (because that's what it was...against stopping illegal immigration, or Pro-Illegal Immigration) I would bet you a dollar to a donut it would have been classified as a hate crime against hispanics, no matter who started it. Let Conservatives and or Liberals march down the street protesting the protesters and it would have been a "Pro-hate" march. The NAACP hands out scholarships only to black people it is community taking care of community, but let a NAAWP scholarship be handed out and it would be a "Hate Scholarship". And God forbid a faith based scholarship be handed out period, it's a "Religious Zealot Scholarship".

This country has become so overly paranoid of each other that what used to be good has become bad and what has always been bad has become devilishly bad. Just add WHITE to any crime involving a minority (outside of being the victim) and poof, you have a hate crime.

Thanks Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Ted Kennedy, and all the other do good for themselves liberals and compassionate conservative conservatives for twisting Martin Luther King's dream into a nightmare. I dare say that we can never judge a man by the content of their character as long as you continue to force us to judge each other by the color of our skin.

I think the new name for this should be the "White on Fill In The Blank Crime Legislation Act".  

But what would I know, I'm just an Average WHITE American.
